Mr. Unger was born Dec. 18, 1933, in Red Willow County, Neb., to Gus and Lydia Unger.
He married in 1953 to Marlene Packard.
Survivors of his immediate family include wife, Marlene; daughter, Lisa (Greg) Frost; sons, Kurt, Mark and Jeff (Trisch); 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Phylis (Harold) Clapp, Erma (Ralph) Greenlee, Evelyn (Dale) Wagner; and a brother, Melvin (Glenva) Unger.

Mr. Unger was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Anita; a daughter, Machelle; and a son, Todd.
