Benjamin Hochman Obituary

Benjamin Hochman
Benjamin Hochman passed peacefully on July 2nd with his wife Alice holding his hand. Ben is survived by his son, Lawrence, daughter, Rachel, grand-daughter, Leah, his sister Helene, and his second wife, Alice. Ben was the son of Pauline and Murray Hochman and was preceded in death by his first wife Elaine Chazen Hochman. Ben made many contributions to biomedical engineering through his early work on the backpack that went to the moon, nuclear powered cardiac pacemakers and incubators for premature infants. Ben was born in New York City and graduated from the prestigious Stuyvesant High School. He received dual degrees from NYU in Mechanical Engineering and Humanities after serving with the US Army in Korea.
He was a C-suite executive at a number of different biomedical companies, and then created his own consulting company which he ran for years. Ben was a stalwart advocate for his family members and his employees. He loved creating and fixing equipment and tools, skills and passion learned from his father and passed to his children.
Whenever he could he spent time outdoors and with his pets: cats, dogs, and koi. He built a Folboat kayak in 1970 and spent the rest of his life sharing his love of the water with family and friends. If he wasn't kayaking on the weekend, one could find him enjoying his backyard, walking at Peace Valley Park, or riding his favorite Cannondale hybrid bicycle. Ben also was on the board of the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra, and helped found Kehelat Ha Nahar Synagogue in New Hope, PA. He will be missed.
