Andrew Reed Obituary

DR. ANDREW JOHN REED III
WEST DANBY - Dr. Andrew John Reed III, 89, of 2365 Spencer Road, West Danby, New York, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2008, at the Robert Packer Hospital.
Known by his family and closest friends simply as Jack, he was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts on March 2, 1919 to Gertrude and Andrew J. Reed II.
A 1941 graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Jack served in the Navy on active duty for the duration of World War II, serving with destroyer fleets that were assigned to patrol the waters of the North Atlantic.
When the war ended, Jack enrolled in New York University's dental program. In 1950 he graduated from N.Y.U. and enlisted in the Army Reserve.
After serving in the Army Reserve, Jack and Wilma Reed moved to Geneva, New York, where he opened a private dental practice and sons Jay and Fred were added to the family. After a brief move to Ithaca, Jack attended Eastman Dental Center where he studied to become a pedodontist. He returned to Ithaca where he practiced pediatric dentistry until his retirement in 1993.
Some of his honors and achievements included being published in scholarly journals and being invited as a guest lecturer at various National Dental Society meetings around the world.
Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wilma Reed; Jay and Leslie Reed, Fred and Annie Reed, Jay Jr. and Yana Reed, and Kimberly (Reed) and Kevin Hanrahan and their daughters, Piper and Presley.
In keeping with Jack's wishes, there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Bangs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mr and Mrs Reed have been two of the most wonderful friends of the Owego Elks and the Emporium. They attended almost every sale and they would visit and discuss their trips with us. Their loyal support of the Emporium kept Barb and I going when we needed an uplift the most.
Mr Reed will be missed. Mrs Reed, you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers every day.
All of your friends from the The Owego Elks Emporium also extend their sympathy's.

What a wonderful man - when I was a child growing up in Ithaca he was my dentist. He was always friendly and funny and super with my brothers and I. One of the world's good guys to be sure. He will be missed.
