Barbara McDonald Obituary

BARBARA TRUAX McDONALD
ITHACA - Barbara Truax McDonald died Sunday, July 27, 2008, after an extended illness. She was surrounded by her wonderful friends and caregivers at Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca. Her last weeks were enriched by devoted attention from many Hospice volunteers and staff.
"Bobbi", as she was affectionately known, was born August 1, 1935 in New York City. After high school she worked as a dressmaker and attended art school where she was known for her sculpture, weaving and painting. She was also a dancer in Atlantic City. Her nickname, "Tall Pockets" captured her slim physique and sense of adventure.
After starting a family she moved to Richford, NY. Here she fulfilled her lifelong love of animals, and for a time, with her husband, ran the Tompkins County SPCA. Bobbi had many talents and careers. She was a certified nurse's aide and loved home care. She was also a receptionist at Tompkins County Mental Health until her retirement in 2000.
A memorial service will be held in the Family Room at Beechtree Care Center, 318 S. Albany St., Ithaca, on Sunday, August 3, 2008, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bobbi's memory would be gratefully accepted at the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ness-Sibley Funeral Home. 1-888-534-5446.
