Daniel Wells Obituary
Ithaca: Daniel (Boone) Wells passed away on December 4, 2014 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Born January 1, 1951 in Ithaca, New York, he was the son of the late Lester and Blanche Wells. Boone was employed by the Ithaca City School District for over forty years, and was deeply involved in all aspects of the athletic program. Danny had many interests which included; going to Bingo with his sister, Mary Jane; watching SU basketball with his brother, Art; and assisting with various athletic events at IHS. In the early '70's he coached CYO basketball and went on to coach and help with many other sports over the years whenever a coach was needed. He was an avid Syracuse basketball fan and for over thirty years he worked at Coach Jim Boeheim's Syracuse basketball camp. Danny is survived by his brothers Lester Wells, Jr., John A. Wells (Dorie), Charles R. Wells (Tracy), Arthur J. Wells, and Frank Wells (Sally). He is survived by his sisters Mary Jane Wells and Shirley Wells Allen. Danny is also survived by nieces Kristen Wells (Mark), Melissa Allen, Melinda Sims (Danny), and Melanie Allen (Zack); nephews Chas Wells, Denver Wells and Tyler Wells; great nephews, twins Nicholas and Michael Woodard, Zachary Woodard, and Connor Allen. Danny had many loving aunts, and cousins. He leaves behind many dear friends including Kim Caforio-Nunciato, Bill and Jane Bryant, Rich Armstrong, Kathy Troy, and an extended athletic family. Danny was predeceased by his brothers Wesley J. Wells and Raymond C. Wells. A memorial service will be held at the Ithaca High School Gymnasium on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the IHS Boosters Club.

You were a great brother in law and a great friend. We shared a lot of laughs and it was great to know you had my back. I remember the last time I saw you at the cafe, we hugged, laughed and did some catching up. I didn't know that was the last time I would see you and it breaks my heart, but I will add it to my many happy and fond memories I have of you. My sons adored their Uncle Boone, thank you for always watching out for them, and keep doing that from the heavens, if you will! I love you and miss you. He was a cornerstone at IHS. Will be missed by a LOT of alumni. I remember him in the skunk mascot outfit. :) He was so much fun!

Danny was one of a kind, very special person whose heart was filled with love & kindness. My memories of him cruising around the IHS track on his cart during the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is the best ever. His generous, kind nature is something we should all strive for. Danny "Boone" Wells - what a kind and generous soul. Your dedication to your job, the community, and our area youths was second to none. Without a doubt, you have positively impacted the lives of many. I hope and pray that you knew this and how appreciated you were. A true "Hall of Famer" in many ways.

Sincerest condolences to all in the Wells family... you have not only lost a beloved brother and uncle...but the basketball world has lost a wondeful coach and mentor. I first met Danny in 1978 when he came up to Canada to coach at summer Camp... the beginning of a life-long friendship and the spread of the "Boone Shuffle" across Ontario basketball courts! A great friend, a caring Coach and a true gentleman. He will be missed.

Boone influenced many lives with his love of the game. I know I went on to play in many a basketball tourney that I would not have gotten the chance to play in without his guidance. I have followed his path and have been coaching for almost thirty years now myself. The photo of me in my Chuck Taylor's shows how much patience the man had, or at least the genius to draw out the inner player in all of us.

My Condolences to all of Dan's Family. My Thoughts and Prayers are with you. It was an Honor and Great Fun to work with Dan on the Ithaca High School Security Team. He was our Leader and I learned a lot from him. He was a dear and loyal friend.I miss him, but I am left with many, many wonderful memories. I especially remember how Dan enjoyed Christmas with Mary and the Tots and Teens Program at IHS. The little kid's eyes would light up with joy at seeing Dan with the gifts he brought them.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Wells family and those close to Danny. I knew him when I was a student at IHS, but got to know him best while teaching there in the late 80s. Danny was really great with helping escort some of my students from Deebs to my classroom! He had a very generous heart and often quietly made sure that students in need had what they needed, by donating his own money for them. Danny was and always will be a legend at IHS and a loving, caring man. Rest in peace, Dan.

I gave Boone a ride during my internship from Ithaca College in Athletic Training. From IHS to home, one day he didn't have wheels. He was still like he was back in high school days for me, it was good for students to have someone like him, who was easy to get along with. I think he really caed about the high school programs.

I was new to Ithaca in 1977 as my father took the job as principal and I needed guidance as a multiple sport athlete. Boone helped me assimilate to the inside and outs of the locker room rules and regulations. He always had a posite outlook and showed me the importance of being passionate about what you do, regardless of the perception of those who do not know. God bless and keep those Angels on task to a winning season.

May your spirit continue to cheer for and watch over the athletic programs at Ithaca High School. Going to and watching a basketball game will never be the same without seeing you at the scorers table, always with a smile on your face doing what you loved to do. I'm also sure that the Syracuse Orangeman will also enjoy having you watching their games from the heavens. The Dome has just become that much harder for the visiting teams thanks to the Carrier Dome's most recent resident Angel. Danny Wells you will be missed but never forgotten. RIP my friend.

Boone was truly a unique person. I stayed in touch with him for many years after high school. I will always remember him racing around school in his golf cart which we always referred to as the Boone buster mobile. May he rest in peace. My condolences to the family.
