I once emailed Dr. Garcia as a 7th grader in the 1990's, fascinated by his work at DARPA with the human exoskeleton project. I offered him child-like "suggestions" for how the technology might be used. Not only did he take the time to respond graciously, but he stated "I hope you study engineering". He is one of only a handful of people in my childhood to affirm my curiosity seriously and inspire me to greater achievement. I now work in the field of biomedical devices and therapies that improve and save lives. I offer my sincere condolences, thanks, and respect to his family.

While searching the literature today I stumbled upon one of Ephrahim's papers and did a Google search to find his whereabouts. I met Ephrahim when he was a student at UB. He was working for his PhD in a lab next to my lab in Furnas Hall. I remember him as a bright, kind, and happy person. I followed his brilliant career from the UB Alumni news. I am very saddened by his passing and I extend my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and students. May his soul rest in peace.

Today when I woke up Prof. Garcia came to my mind. I started searching to find his contact details in google but I received a sad news which is the death of my supervisor during my bachelor degree between 1996 and 1999. He was my best friend who always supported me personally and academically. I'll never forget how Prof. Garcia helped and guided me over the three years I spent in Vanderbilt university, generously sharing his time and experience.

One of the classes I took with him will always be one of my fondest. I remember working late into the night with the rest of my classmates and there he was seeing how we were all doing, and later on, having several meetings with him where he helped me to make sure I was on the right track for continuing in my studies and making sure it was right for me too.

Isaac, You paid a wonderful tribute to your Dad. He loved you guys so much. My heart aches and the world felt a little too"loud" around me Friday when I heard the sad news. For his wife, the love and the "fit" you two had for each other was something I admired. He was in love every day with her and you could see it in his eyes when he looked at her. His pride in Isaac and his creativity and passion for his art, a scientist understanding an artistic being, was the epitome of a proud father. The sweetness of his love for their Sarah, made me smile to see them together at our lake and as we watched our little girls meet and play. A little girl will always hold her Daddy's heart. Your father's heart was so full of love for his family. Yes, indeed he had a big heart and I am thankful to have known him.

RIP Ephrahim!! We will never again talk about those days gone by at the movie theater when we were teens - what times we had and our futures were limitless or so we thought. You said it, we were brothers from different mothers. While we did not talk too frequently the last couple of years we always knew we were there for each other. Attached is the picture of us from our youth you just sent me a few months ago. I miss you already.

Dr Garcia,
I am saddened to read of the passing of your husband. Your son did a wonderful job of making him come alive as I read the obituary. I truly feel like I knew him from everything he shared. I did not know Ephrahim, but I do know you as one of the best OB doctors I have ever had. I appreciate all you did for me last year before, during and after my surgery. Praying for you and the rest of your family.

As professional staff at UB I met Ephrahim as an undergraduate some 30 years ago. He was so likable, engaging and accomplished. We'll all miss cheering for him.
