James Varga Obituary
James (Jim) Robert Varga, age 70 of Lansing, NY died at home January 11, 2017 after a courageous battle with Lung Cancer and Heart Disease.
Jim was born December 28, 1946 to the late Stephen and Susie (Solomon) Varga in Ithaca, NY. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Varga.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Gloria (Dingler) Varga; brother Steve (Wendy) Varga; brother Louis (Dixie) Varga all of Lansing, NY; sister Jennie Miller of Flourtown, PA; Son, Jamie (Karen) Varga of Holly Springs, NC; Son, Josh (Kristi) Varga of Farmington, NY; step daughter Teresa (Jesse) Harrison of Snow Camp, NC; Grandchildren Jack, Abigail, Jenna and Cameron Varga; former Wife Arlene (Visnyei) Nelson of Groton, NY; several nieces, nephews and friends from near and far.
Jim was a lifelong Lansing resident, graduating from Lansing High School in 1965. He briefly attended Cornell University before accepting a tool and die apprenticeship at Smith Corona. He owned and operated Varga Veal for several years before returning to the tool and die business. Jim most recently worked at Advance Design Consulting (ADC).
Jim was an avid sports fan following all things Lansing Bobcats, Syracuse University Basketball and NY Giants Football. For ~25 years, Jim looked forward to his weekly poker games with a dedicated group of friends from the area. He also enjoyed barbecuing with his family and trips to the casino with friends.
Friends may call at the Lansing Funeral Home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing, NY on Saturday, January 28th from 1-3pm. A celebration of life will follow at the Lansingville Fire Station (1235 Ridge Road) from 3-5pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to either of these organizations whom helped the Varga family in their time of need:

I only know of Jim as a great guy who was always a pleasure to talk to. Very caring and thoughtful. I got to know Jim when I was a kid.. I spent quite a few days at the veal farm growing up. As a young kid, I thought it was neat seeing how the cattle were fed and taken care of. As an adult, we crossed paths many times. He always asked how I was doing, about my family. Great memories of a really nice man who I am so blessed to have known. Thank you! May you Rest in Eternal Peace! To the Varga family, I am very sorry for this great loss! May your memories of him comfort you!

What a great man! We met Jim for the first time in 2004 and enjoyed spending time with him and Gloria ever since. He was a role model and a grandfather for my two sons. We are all going to miss you Jim!!
