Oliver McGraw Obituary
MORAVIA | Oliver H. McGraw, of Moravia, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 11, 2015. He graduated from Penn Yan Academy, class of 1943, and by the end of June left for the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, serving for three years in the Pacific. He worked for 40 years with the New York Electric & Gas (NYSEG) Company starting as driver-groundsman, working himself up to foreman in the line department, retiring in 1987. Ollie was village justice from 1956-1993 and town justice from 1965-2001. A member of the NYS Magistrates, elected president for 1971 and 1972; lifetime member of the Moravia VFD; member of the Sylvan Lodge #41 F & AM; Auburn Elks Lodge #474; American Legion Post 1324, and the NYSEG Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Dresden Methodist Church, attending Christ Methodist at Moravia. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Meaker; daughter, Lauren (Harvey) Bartz, of Batavia, N.Y.; son, Brett (Linda), of Germany; granddaughter, Amy (David) Wagner, of Frisco, Texas; grandson, Duane McGraw, of Germany; great¬granddaughter, Molly, and great-grandson, Luke Wagner, of Frisco, Texas, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 2015 in Christ Methodist Church Moravia, N.Y., with burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan, N.Y. Memorials may be sent to Christ Methodist Church, Moravia, N.Y.; Four Town First Aid Inc., Moravia, N.Y.; Moravia Volunteer Fire Department, or Hospicare, of Cortland, N.Y. Arrangements are with the Wade Funeral Home, Moravia

Judge McGraw was one of my favorite judges. He made me smile. He always had interesting insight and comments during my NYS DCJS training sessions at town and village magistrate conferences. I shall truly miss him.

Even though we have only known Ollie for a short time he has left an indelible mark with his smile and chats. We will miss him and his humor. We can only hope the good memories will outlast the sadness of today. He is walking with God and sitting in his golden chair nearby keeping a watchful eye on all of us.

I have so many memories of Ollie and the entire McGraw family growing up in Moravia. Our families were such good friends and had many great times at the vets and at the fair. I am saddened by his passing, but am certain of the resurrection and that we will all meet again. Hugs for you all.

To Olie's family our heart felt condolences. While he was a Town.Village Justice in Moravia, he was a legend in the rest of the state. We're sure that where ever he is now something will remind him of a story as he has said so many times in court. We tip our hats and do our jobs because of men like him.
