ROBERT E. NEWPORT
TRUMANSBURG - Robert E. (Newpy) Newport, 85, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2003. He was born and raised in Little Falls, NY.He and his wife, Inez (Pete), moved to Trumansburg, NY, in 1951, where he owned and operated Newport Chevrolet, Inc. for 28 years and the Taughannock Motel. Inez passed away in 1990.Robert was a member of the Trumansburg VFW, American Legion, Rotary Club, the VFW of Little Falls, and the Little Falls Elks Lodge #42. He served as Mayor of Trumansburg from 1969 to 1973. He was a veteran of WWII, Mr. Newport had recently moved from Syracuse, NY, to Bullhead City, AZ.Surviving are one son, Michael of Bokeelia, FL; three daughters, Ann of Manlius, NY, Elizabeth of Bullhead City, AZ, and Barbara of North Syracuse, NY; five grandchildren, Robin, Jay, Mike, Katie, and AJ; plus several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Janet (Newport) Kaye.There will be a graveside service on May 8th in Little Falls, NY, and a Memorial Service to be held in Trumansburg, NY, on May 9th. There will be a time of reflection and prayer for the family and friends on December 23rd.
