Ruth Lyon Obituary
Ithaca - Ruth M. (White) Lyon 95, of Ithaca passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.
Ruth was born August 12, 1924 in Wallingford, Vermont, to Carl and Marion (Sheehan) White. She graduated from the University of Vermont in 1946. Ruth married Howard H. Lyon Jr. on June 22, 1946, and celebrated 70 years of marriage with Howard before his passing.
Ruth moved to Ithaca, NY, in 1949 when Howard became a graduate student at Cornell. She worked as a photographer' s assistant for Cornell's Natural Resources Department from 1965 to 1982.
Ruth was an avid golfer for 35 years. In the 1980's Ruth and Howard operated a business called "Lens of Lyon" which produced calendars and postcards of the Finger Lakes Region.
Ruth was also very active with the University of Vermont alumni association and served as president of her class for several years.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Martha J. Lyon (Chris Pelkie) of Ithaca and Debra L. Sharp (Charles) of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Jessica L. Cummings (Michael) of Walpole, MA, and Gregory L. Sharp (Laura Llovet) of San Jose, CA; great-grandson, Chase Cummings; sister, Jane Brown of Rutland, VT; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband Howard and daughter Nancy.
The family wishes to thank the Classen Home Health aides, Hospicare and her wonderful neighbors for their care and support.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

My memories of Ruth go back to when she and Howie first came to Ithaca with their young family. it was always a special pleasure to see them through the years whenever I returned to Ithaca. For so many years the only post cards with pictures of Ithaca and the university were those from the Lens of Lyon and they remain classics, the joint efforts of Ruth and Howie whose smiles lit up every meeting. My condolences to their family.

Fly High Ruth...it was my pleasure getting to know you...we had some great talks about Vermont. I'm happy you are with your husband again...no more crying...all smiles for you now.
