SAM SHULMAN
ITHACA - Sam Shulman, age 90, was for many years the proprietor with his father, Jacob, of the Empire State Scrap Metal Yard in Ithaca, NY. Sam received meritorious recognition from the U.S. Government during World War II for providing a constant source of supply of vital scrap metals to the war effort. Sam was also a retired real estate broker formerly associated with the Fedor Realty Agency in Linden, New Jersey. He will be buried at Lakeside Cemetery, Ithaca, New York, in a Masonic graveside ceremony as a member of the Fidelity 51 Masonic Lodge of Ithaca.Sam served in the United States Navy in the Navy Post Office in Manila, the Philippines during the latter part of World War II, was an officer/vice president and member of the Linden, New Jersey Kiwanis Club. Sam was an avid classical music devotee. He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Helen Kramer Shulman; his loving children, his daughter, Joan Leavy of Margate, New Jersey; his daughter, Linda Levin of New York City, NY; and his son, Jack A. Shulman of Westfield, New Jersey; along with six loving grandchildren.Sam had resided in Ithaca, NY from 1916 to the end of World War II, and in Westfield, New Jersey from 1946 to 2006.Graveside services will be held Monday, September 18, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery with the Masonic Lodge. Bangs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. There are no calling hours.
