Gilbert Gomez Obituary
Preceded in death by his loving father, Lou, he is survived by his devoted mother, Fran Gomez; his brother Lou (Elizabeth) Gomez of Newton; and his sisters, Ventura (Warren) Porter of Winfield and Victoria (Frank) Adame of Newton.
Gilbert was born in Newton on March 24, 1963, and graduated from Newton High School in 1984. He participated in many activities while in high school, including cheerleading and Special Olympics. After high school, he was active at Northview Developmental Center Industries and the Learning Center. Additionally, he received excellent, caring services through Aspen Home Care for five years.
Gilbert enjoyed an active life until physical challenges limited his mobility. However, even then he was a special young man who always had a smile, positive attitude and an unmistakable love for the Oak Ridge Boys and Star Trek. Everyone who came in contact with Gilbert recognized his determination and the never ending supplies of "good idea." His loving nature was shared with family, friends and even strangers.
Gilbert leaves us rich in memories and appreciation of the joy he brought to our family and others who knew him.
A Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Thursday (May 12, 2016) at 7 p.m.
A Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Friday (May 13, 2016) at 10 a.m., followed by interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
The family wishes to thank Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita for the excellent care Gilbert received while he stayed.
If you wish, donations may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.

El motivo de este mensaje es expresarle mis más profundas condolencias por el reciente fallecimiento y recordarle que el mejor amigo en estos momentos es nuestro creador Jehova . Ábrale su corazón de par en par porque él se interesa por usted y le aflije su pena (1Pedro5:7)y deje que Dios lo consuele mediante su palabra . Juan5:28-29 habla acerca de que la mayoría de las personas que han muerto volverán a la vida .....no le parce maravilloso!. Cuando leemos en la Biblia los relatos sobre las resurrecciones del pasado, aprendemos mucho sobre la que ocurrirá en el futuro..... pueda que lo lea en la Biblia no le haga desaparecer el dolor ....Pero sin embargo reflexionar en estas promesas divinas le dará la esperanza y la fortaleza necesarias para seguir adelante.

My condolences to the family for your loss of this very special man. I first met Gilbert as an elementary school student in the 1970's. I will remember Gilbert as the happy playful boy who always was up for fun at recess and who always had a big smile for everyone he saw. At such an important young age he taught me and the other kids who interacted with him at South Breeze that being different was not a bad thing and being special was something that makes our world a better place.
