Always a smile. Always a good handshake. What a blessing it has been to have Steve be a part of my life. God has blessed all who have been in Steve's presence. May we all take the goodness that he gave and share with others. Bless all of the family for sharing such a wonderful man. May God comfort each of us until we can meet again in His house.

Mr. Steve was the nicest man I meet working at hwy 48 market. He would stop and get coffee in the morning and never fail to tell me to be careful with all the stranger coming in. I remember when he retired from TVA. That last day he was very happy and a bit sad at the same time. He was so excited to get to do the BBQ full time. It was an adventure and now he is on his next adventure. Thank you so much for making my days a bit brighter.

My mother and I went to visit Ms. Betty at the nursing home shortly before she passed. Before we left I asked Ms.Betty if she would like the head of her bed down some so she could rest. Ms. Betty said 'No dear I just want to sit here and look at my Beautiful husband" When I looked at Mr.Steve he had this wounderful smile on his face. When mom and I went to the funeral home the other day, I saw that same smile on Mr.Steve's face and the only thing I could think was Mr. Steve must have seen his Beautiful Angel welcoming him home.
I know they are both happy again...

Ole steves, I remember taking that trip outside of the clarksville city limits numerous times to get some bbq and "skins" with my mother and then by my self as an adult. I 'm going to miss going to what used to be called slim wootens and buying some of that homemade sauce. Thank you for all the memories.I guess God needed to bbq, he's found one of the greats. Carlos and the rest of the pettus family may God bless you and watch over you.

Mr. Steve was the best Democrat I ever knew. I loved it when he told me stories about fishing with my Granddaddy Charlie. I loved it when he called me "sugar" and said I was a true Adkins! I loved him.
I will miss him and our political talks in Kroger.
My son David loved him too.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

To The Pettus Family:

I will always remember when there was singing going on at a church there was Steve and the Fletcher Brothers singing. We would love to here them sing. Our choir would always get an invite to sing at First Baptist when it was on Vine St. and we always enjoy the time spent with him. Mr. Steve is resting and singing his heart out with the family and they are having a good time. Just smile family and kno he is resting now.

Just imagine Brother Pettus smiling as he walk through the pearly gates of Heaven, walking on the streets made of gold, seeing love one, probably joining in singing with the Angelic Choir but most beautifully and importantly sitting at the feet of the Almight God. Oh, what joy this should bring to our hearts!

To the Pettus family, my prayers and thoughts are with you all. Mr. Pettus was a blessing in my life. He opened a door for children like myself to go skating who did not have a way, by driving a bus to pick us up. I pray God will continue to strengthen you all through this journey.

SCHOOL PICKUP/ "Hey Grandfather." Cre said as she climbs in the passenger seat. "What's up Grandfather!" I mimicke as I squeezed into the back seat of his rusted blue station wagon. "Hey." he mumbles as he adjusts his dusty ball cap on his head. You have to understand that Grandfather Pettus didn't mind playing rescue, just not in the rain. Lol! He runs a red light, as Cre turns to make eye contact with me. I began to search for a seat belt, but there isn't one. God help us! "Grandfather, I can drive if you want," his granddaughter offers, as I stifle a giggle at his indignant huff. "I got it." He all but fusses at us. "Hey Grandfather, Cre cut my hair today!" I say, sounding like an
excited 12yr old. He chuckles a bit at this, "She did?" He asks just to placate me. "Yeah, do you like it? When he finally pulls to the next red light, he turns to inspect my head. "Lord have mercy," he says and turns his attention back to the road. "What is it?" Cre asks a bit defensively. Again I stifle a giggle. "I don't know what's wrong with you girls lookin like little chickens! Why on earth do ya'll girls want your hair cut like a boys?". "We don't look like boys!" I protest from the back seat, as I suddenly realize I've sat in something wet. "Grandfather my butt is wet! Am I sitting in barbecue sauce?" I ask seriously as I try to readjust. He ignores me of course, continuing to fuss. "You girls need to let your hair grow!". "What is that smell?" Cre blurts as she rolls her window down. "Oh my God!" I yell. " Whatever I'm sitting in got my butt burning!" There's a moment of silence. "Kerosene!!!" Cre and I say in unison. "What's that now?" Grandfather asks as if he just realized we were there. "My butt is burning!!!" I whine. "That kerosene can't hurt you girl. Make ya strong." (TO THE READER, THIS MEMORY WILL MEAN NOTHING. FOR ME??? IT WILL ALWAYS BRING A SMILE TO MY FACE. KISS YOUR WIFE FOR ME. I LOVE YOU OLD MAN)
