FORT MEADE - Mr. Ernest H. Conner, Sr., 88, died Saturday, 12/22/2007 of respiratory failure.
Mr. Conner was born in Vienna, GA on 11/23/1919, his family moved to Ft. Meade when he was 7 years old. He was a Master Sergeant in the Air Force during WW II in the Pacific. Mr. Conner was a Supervisor for Swift & Co for 34 years, after he retired he worked for Greenwood Chevrolet for 15 years. He was also the Commander for the American Legion Post #23 of Ft. Meade for 35 years which he helped found. He was also instrumental in starting the Dixie Youth Baseball and little league Football in Ft. Meade in which he participated in for 34 years. He was a Past Fire Chief and volunteer fireman for the city of Ft. Meade and a former Rotarian. He was a member of The First Church of God in Ft. Meade.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mrs. Lillian Allen Conner of Ft. Meade; one daughter, Sue & Don Medder of Fort Meade, FL; one son, Ernest & Cheryl Conner, Jr. of Armuchee, GA; 5 grandchildren 7 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wed. 12/26/2007 at McLean Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. The Funeral service will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. at The First Church of God, 215 S. Perry Ave. in Ft. Meade.
Arrangements are being handled by McLean Funeral Home, 306 East Broadway, Fort Meade, FL. Contribution may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice.
