Julian Clary Obituary

Retail BusinessLAKE WALES -- Mr. Julian S. Clary of Lake Wales died of cancer Thursday (Feb. 5, 2004) at Good Shepherd Hospice Center, Auburndale. He was 89.Born Sept. 4, 1914, in Spartanburg, S.C., he came here from Boone, N.C., six years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Europe in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart with two clusters for multiple wounds. He owned retail businesses. He was a member of Civitan, Rotary Clubs, Lake Wales Country Club, First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham, N.C., Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church of Blowing Rock, N.C., and the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales.Mr. Clary was preceded in death by his first wife of 61 years, Idell Albright Clary. He is survived by his second wife, Marie Wood Norman; son, Julian Spencer Clary, Jr., Blowing Rock; daughter, Julia Clary Rees, Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Francis Marion Clary, Sun City, Calif.; step children, Richard H. Norman, Boone, N.C., Barbara Norman Pido, Winter Haven; two grandchildren; and two step grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales. Services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church.
