KAY STONE Obituary
LAKELAND - Kay Crockette Stone, age 77, of Lakeland, FL, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017. She was born in Tampa, Florida to Jack Clarence Crocketteand Ellen Regina Wrenn.
Along with her parents Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wallace J. Stone, Jr. and daughter Deborah Rutkowski.
She is survived by her loving family: sons, Jeffrey Clarence (Dow-na) Stone, Steve (Laura) Stone; daughter, Sandi (Joel) Silverman; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Kay is also survived by her sisters, Karen Beer-man, Vera Boek, Jackie Holcomb, and Jenise Jones.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Lakeland, President of Association Operating Room Nurses and President of Ridge Orchid Society. She enjoyed raising orchids and genealogy.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on January 6th, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 210 W Lemon St, Lakeland with Father Ramon Bolatete officiating. A celebration of life will be held following the Mass in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the donor's charity of choice.

I just learned of Kay's death. She was a personal friend of mine and my wife for years as we were involved in a genealogy project involving the research and publication of nine volumes covering all the known burial sites in Polk County. She was the sparkplug that made thirteen years of work on the project possible and fun. Her van drove hundreds of miles during that time and she did all the original data entry from the forms collected by a number of dedicated volunteers. She was never content until every volume met her standards. Knowing Kay will always be one of my greatest gifts.

Kay will be missed by all of her Jernigan cousins. I know we were sisters under the skin. We enjoyed many trips hunting Jernigans. Rest in Peace and hope you find some great wildflowers.

This fine lady was my aunt, and I cannot put into words how very unique and outstanding she truly was. She achieved so much in her life, and has left us all with sorrow for her loss, but great pride in her life.

You were more than a sister to me, you were our second mother who looked out for us our whole lives. You took on a lot of responsibility at a young age and never shrugged it off. I miss you so very much and will always have you in my heart.
