Matthew Haeusler Obituary

Matthew Haeusler

Lakeland - Matt Haeusler began his life cruise on January 1, 1975, in Sheffield, AL continuing his journey with his father, Gary F Haeusler, and mother, Sharon S Surrency (formerly Sharon Haeusler) and younger brother, Christopher Haeusler to Lakeland, FL at the age of three years and spent his childhood and teenage years there attending Carlton Palmore Elementary, Lakeland Junior High, and Lakeland High School.

Matt's life was too short but lived to the fullest. He attended Palm Beach Atlantic College intending to major in marine biology when he was immediately tapped to solve technical issues in the computer lab. His love of technology (he self-taught every major computer language while still in High School) led him to degrees in computer science and business administration. He worked for Oxbow Carbon LLC as an IT specialist. However, Matt wasn't all work. He lived his life big and full and most generously. Comments from his many friends are overflowing with words like - generous, wise, cherished, amazing, wonderfully stubborn, and delightfully argumentative. He challenged himself as a lifelong learner enjoying creative activities that included glass blowing, black smithing, fencing, collecting, and playing board games, and collecting vintage clocks. His favorite past time was to destress on cruises - scheduling several each year. He loved meeting people from around the globe and arranging meet up cruises regularly.

Matt always had an empathic and generous heart. He frequently donated his time and resources to many individuals and organizations alike that included giving envelopes of cash to those in need and paying off peoples' layaway gifts during the Christmas season and assisting with multiple charity events in the West Palm Beach area over the years. His larger-than-life personality will be remembered and cherished by so many whose lives he touched.

His sunset cruise melted into the skyline August 19, 2020, as he heroically fought the battle but lost the war against liver failure at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center waiting for a room at a specialized liver clinic. You are so very missed as you sail into your last sunset dearest son, adored brother, and cherished friend.

Matt is survived by his mother, Sharon S Surrency and husband Mal Surrency, father, Gary F Haeusler and wife Sharon Haeusler, both of Lakeland FL, and brother Master Sergeant Christopher M Haeusler of El Paso TX, US Army. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents Edward and Hilma Haeusler of Festus MO and maternal grandparents Stanley and Wilma Siebert also of Festus MO.

A celebration of life will be held at Heath Funeral Chapel on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00pm, with services at 7:00pm. To honor Matt's pride in his brother's military service donations may be made to Stop Soldier's Suicide in lieu of flowers.

A mask is required to attend.

I lost touch with Matt many years ago after I moved across the country. My memories are of a wonderful man, excited about life and full of creative energy. We were next door neighbors not once, but twice, and we would cook steaks on a shared deck and watch Star Trek or Godzilla movies after work. We both were young men figuring out life, and those evenings were really an excuse to discuss the big questions. I am deeply saddened by his passing and regret not having kept in touch with him over the years.
