This is a little late but I wanted to let Rick's family know just how much of a friend he was and to pass on a funny story about him. We were roomates for a while as smacks at USAFA. One day I was studying with a pile of books on my desk and looked over at Rick who was gluing a model airplane together! I told him he better get to his homework and he calmly said, "I'll get to it". I thought to myself, wow this guy is not gonna make it! Little did I know this unassuming really mellow character would graduate #1 in our class academically with majors in astro and aero!!! He was a great guy and I will miss him. I am so sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to the family of the Colonel Searfoss family. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He left with me the wonderful memory of a reverse roll in a glider in Florida as a part of the Teacher In Space program. I am forever grateful for the time and experience to have known such a wonderful pilot and man.

Rick was on the PHS track team in the early 1970s and helped contribute to 3 state championships. He would come back to visit coach Mike Grogan. He opened his home in CA to me and fellow teammates. Smart, athletic, gracious and professional. I hope Portsmouth keeps him in our memories.

To the Searfoss family I'm sorry for your loss. I remember his father Lt. Col. Searfoss talking to me about him when he flying in the Air Force during my high school years. So sorry for your loss. He was a GREAT man who came from a GREAT family. You've spent your life flying up to the Angels, now you can rest and finally fly with the Angels.

Rick was one of the finest men I have ever known. Loved working in the Boy Scout program with Rick. When we climbed the Grand Teton together, he literally saved my life through his inspired decisions. Truly one of the Lord's most valiant sons during his mortal sojourn. Our family sends our love and heartfelt condolences.

I worked with Rick when he would present at Startrek Conventions. The many hours he spent with me sharing his experiences as an astronaut will always be with me. One time Rick was following me to a convention venue and I had to make a detour and Rick got lost. In is talks after that if I would be there he would tell the audience that after all of the miles he flew in space I had gotten him lost in a parking lot. So approachable, always he would take the time to talk to anyone when anyone would come up to him. Rick you will be missed.

So very sad to hear of Ricks passing. I knew him when we were teenagers in high school and followed his career take off. Always a standup guy. Sending our love and prayers to his wife Julie and their girls.

Kim and I are saddened about the news of Rick's passing. We were neighbors of the Searfoss's when NASA called him to become an astronaut. He had us as a reference when he was recommended for the astronaut position. I remember serving coffee and cake to an FBI agent while we talked about Rick and what a great guy he was. He was a wonderful family man and dedicated to his country. Even though great neighbors had to move, We felt proud when he was chosen to be one of America's finest. One of our most cherished Christmas cards is from the Searfoss's. - Rick took a picture on one of his missions that shows the Holy Land outside of the space shuttle window. We have it framed and it's been in a place of honor for years. Our deepest most heart felt condolences to Julie and the girls and those who are feeling sadness during this loss. May we all take comfort in the memories of Rick. Rest in peace my friend.
