SKINNER, 86

LAKELAND - Mr. Richard "Rich" Skinner of Lakeland, FL, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2013, due to heart failure.
He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on April 25,1927, son of Gifford L. Skinner and Nina joy (Edgar) Skinner. He graduated from Victory High School, class of 1945, and joined the U.S. Navy where he served 16 months. He later married Virginia Bennett on November 28, 1947, who survives.
He was employed as a mold maker with Hazel Atlas, Brockway Continental Can, Anchor Hocking, and Newell Glass factories. He then retired to Florida where he spent many hours working at all three local golf courses. He was also a member of the P.G.A. rating team.
Mr. Skinner was an ordained Deacon from his former home church, Barnes Memorial Baptist of Clarksburg, West Virginia, and was a charter member of the American Baptist Church in Lakeland.
Besides his wife of 65 years, he is survived by a daughter Marsha Whisler. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Amberly Hurst, Richard Whisler, Michael Skinner, and David Skinner; five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Michael Skinner.
Memorial services will be held at the American Baptist Church in Lakeland on Friday, November 15, at 11:00 with the Reverends Gale Mack and Randall Stone. A luncheon will follow the services and everyone is welcome to stay. A private service with be held later at Bushnell National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Baptist Church of Lakeland or the Good Shepherd Hospice.
