LAKELAND - Thomas W. Givan passed away Friday, September 17, 2010. Cause is pending.
He was born in Worthington, MN and moved to Lakeland with his family in 1968. He attended First Baptist Church at The Mall. Tom was co-owner of Total Landscape Management where he loved creating landscape designs for homes and businesses. He used his gift of creativity many times by taking something broken and turning it into a beautiful form of art. Tom had an appreciation for art and was a collector of many types. He was a good friend to many, a good neighbor, a great business partner, and a wonderful gardener. He loved his little dogs Prissy and Lilly and treated them as if they were his children. All of Tom's friends and family will always remember him being a generous giver to those in need, most never asked. Tom graduated from Lakeland Christian School and attended Harding University, Florida Southern, PCC and HCC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Edith Givan. Survivors include, his beloved sister, Julie Collins of Asheville, NC, his uncle, Don Hildebrand of Sioux Falls, SD, cousins, Terry Hildebrand of Mystic, CT and Sid Irig of Lincoln, NE.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 4:00 - 8:00pm at Gentry-Morrison Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 1727 Bartow Rd. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, 10:00 am at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park.

Guess you will always be popping up in my mind and in my email. You wouldn´t believe what all you are missing in this day and age. We could have had so much fun! I started wearing the ring you gave me. I remember the weekend you gave it to me. I had it added to another ring and it's beautiful! So I think of you often. I think you'd like knowing I wear it. I shouldn't have walked away from you....and you shouldnt have left everyone. I'll see you one day and we'll have another banter and you'll end up laughing.You are so very missed. I didnt appreciate you as I should have. Hind sight.

It's been so long but I can still hear your laugh...and that silly thing you would do with your mustache....and whenever I buy those mint life savers it reminds me of you. I had the jeweler change the ring a bit and I wear it everyday now so you're with me everyday. No more sadness...just look forward to seeing you again and telling you that I was right!

Years have passed by...we all miss him. However...Our Grand Creator Jehovah God has not forgotten him. He will live again and enjoy life in a perfect paradise. I believe he will teach people a lot about building that paradise with his knowledge of Botany. Miss you too my dear Tom. I'm sorry I didn't appreciate you as I should have. I hope I can tell you that one day.

I knew The Kid for 13 yrs moved to Jacksonville Fl 11 yrs ago and lost touch he contacted me August of 2010 he was always so positive wish now I would have made the time to visit him . My prayers go out to Julie and Dennis

I can't believe it's already been over a year that you've been gone. My "Thomas" plant keeps growing. The clippings grow when none other plants do. It's almost like you're alive! I think of you and the good times we shared everytime I look at them. It warms my heart to know you're not in pain anymore, yet it breaks my heart to miss you so. In reading over this Orbituary, it's evident that you had your special way of touching everyone's lives in a way that we can't forget. If you could read this, you could know how much you meant to all of us and you could at least take that with you. I think you would have found comfort in that. You were always there for me and our paths crossed when I needed to meet you the most. I can never forget that...and you were right, I made the wrong choice...there Thomas, I said it, happy? Lol! Maybe things would have been different, maybe not. The fact is, that whenever I hear our song, or smell our candle, or am reminded of you...I find myself smiling... I find myself smiling...even here,in my different world and that is what I took with me when I left. The happiness you brought me. I hope you knew how much I really did love you Tom. I miss the "Youness of You." LOL! Rest in peace my darling.

It was a year ago today ...That I lost a wonderful Friend of 13 years. I heard over time it gets easier ... Well, that's not true.... I miss you more My Friend ...it has been so long sent's I've had My TomTime ...in every room in my home... I see something that you wanted me to have or knew I would love ... in my yard plants (best of show plants) ...I have the ribbons,,, 4 from one plant.... Wednesday is my Garden Club meeting here at my home ... Every years you would bring me flowers ( color ) to put in my flower box's on the front porch ...They look like hell this year ... It was the little things that you never forgot a bout ... I miss and love you my friend and it's not getting easier...

I have known tom for many years,hes always come in the rest. ive worked at..Many years ago when i was a single mom with a young son,tom helped me out,I never once asked for his help, but he has such a big heart and i will always be very grateful to have called him my friend, he was a great guy..who will and is missed very much.Dennis and Julie my prayers are with you.rest in peace tom..You deserve it.

We are the Pottery Boys - We always looked forward to seeing Tom and are both shocked and saddened by the news of his passing. You couldn't have packed any more gentleness and kindness into one person - he was always upbeat and encouraged us to keep making our pottery. I will always remember that killer smile as he would be walking away saying "I'll see you guys next year"

Tom was a great neighbor and his death was deeply felt by my family. Tom was always ready with a helping hand or advice and I couldn't have asked for a better neighbor. His cheerful "Chipster!" greeting always made me smile. It still does just thinking about it. He was always good for a few boxes of Thin Mints that my Girl Scout daughters sold. And while my yard will never look like Tom's did, he never disparaged me for it. Tom, we'll miss you buddy.

I was sad to hear about Tom's death. While I had never personally met him I knew who he was thru his work. Im sorry Julie has to endure such heartbreak so soon after her husbands death. Such a sad situation. Tom sure was well liked in Lakeland. The service was very nice as well.

I was very saddened to hear about the Passing of "Total Tom" a name That I gave him during all the time that I have known him. Tom was always smiling and his smile would always brighten my day. He and Dennis were always kind to me and my family. Sent a Cute and Funny Card when I got married, which he signed Total Tom, Sending a Beautiful Ficus Tree wrapped with Baby Blocks when my son was born and employing my stepson one summer. Tom had that kind of genuine kindness about him and he touched my life in a tremendous way. It was an honor to know him and work with him, He will forever be missed. Our condolences to His Sister Julie and his Family and to Dennis and his Family and to the Entire TOTAL LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT FAMILY. When I was sixteen (28 years ago) a friend of my brother sent me a bunch of coupons in the mail. I went out on a date with a guy that used a coupon you found out and sent me coupons. To this day that comes up in conversation and it is a lasting silly memory but it was a Tom moment. You have been good to my brother and my heart and prayers go out to Dennis and your sister.
