Helen I. Taylor, age 87, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan after a courageous 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Helen was born September 6, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Clint and Winifred E. Alexander (Power). She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1956. Helen moved to Wamego, KS in 1968. She married George "Fred" Taylor on April 11, 1971, at the Wamego United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on April 10, 2003.
Helen retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1992 after 24 years of service. After retiring from Southwestern Bell, Helen worked at Dyers IGA for several years until she fully retired to spend time with her husband, family, and friends.
Helen spent many hours creating beautiful quilts, working on sewing projects, and beautiful crochet projects for her family over the years. She will be remembered for her smile and willingness to help anyone who was in need. More than anything else, Helen's family and her very close friends are what mattered the most to her, and she never left a conversation without saying "I love you!" or "Let me get my purse!"
Helen is survived by her daughter Julie (Jeff) Duncan of Saint George, KS; her grandchildren Taylor Schleif (Richard Benkendorf) of Wamego, KS, Danielle (Craig) Hort of New Salem, ND, and Trevor Duncan of Saint George, KS; her great-grandchildren Hunter Schleif, Waylon Hort, Ellison Hort, Lorelai Hort, Charlotte Benkendorf, and Cori Hort; and her brother Richard "Alex" Alexander of Topeka, KS. Helen was preceded in death by her parents.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones for a visitation Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Yorgensen-Meloan-Lundeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:00 at Yorgensen-Meloan-Lundeen Funeral Home. Private graveside services will be held immediately following the service at the Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan. Friends and family are invited to gather for a luncheon following the graveside service at the St. George UMC Fellowship Hall in St. George.
