John Jones Obituary

On May 13, 2024, John H. Jones, Jr., a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away. He was 79 years old. He was born to John H. Jones and Grace Elizabeth (Clore) Jones in Herington, Kansas.

John graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. He continued graduate work in Biological Sciences, receiving his A.I. certification from Kansas State University. He also was certified as a GRI realtor through the Kansas School of Realtors. John later became involved with the MTC/Flint Hills Job Corps in Manhattan, Kansas. Here he did facility maintenance, receiving many awards that included CPR, Safe Driving, and a safety award. He was later employed by Hi Tech in Manhattan, Kansas until his retirement.

John served on the founding committee to get Habitat for Humanity started in Riley County. He continued to volunteer, when possible, to work and support the project. He was a member of the Kansas Wood Workers Association. He enjoyed playing golf, softball, hunting and fishing in his early years. He also enjoyed making trivets until his health prevented him from continuing this passion.

John is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Joy) Jones, his son, John C. (J.C.) Jones and his grandchildren Monty and Hunter Palmateer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rosa, and his daughter, Jacqueline Palmateer.
