Ute Richards Obituary

Ute Gabrielle (Vinson) Richards, 73, of Topeka, Kansas, died May 22, 2024 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Topeka after a sudden illness. She was born July 18, 1950 in Passau Germany, the daughter of Douglas E Vinson and Charlotte (Matulla) Vinson, and moved to the US in 1952.

Ute graduated from Manhattan High in Manhattan, KS in 1968, then served in the US air force until 1970, having served in Biloxi, MS and Detroit, MI. After leaving the Air Force, she started her career in retail fashion sales, merchandising, and leadership in Sacramento, CA and then in Denver, CO.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Joan) Reed and daughter Alexandra (Chris) Stimatze, siblings Ruth Knowlton, Caroline (Danny) Murphy, Ralph (Linda) Vinson, Jimmy (Paula) Vinson, and Steven (Kim) Vinson, grandchildren, Alex, Charlotte, and Adam Reed, Jaxxon, Kennedy, and Thaddeus Stimatze, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ute was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar Richards and her brother, Douglas G. Vinson, and her parents, Douglas and Charlotte..

She will be remembered for her incredible sense of fashion and style that kept up with the times over the decades. She loved to read, write, crochet, and shop. Ute had an incredible ability to recall her cherished memories. She will be sorely missed, while her loved ones are comforted that she has found peace.

Had a nice visit with Ute' a few years ago ! My sympathy to her family and especially Michael as he was always the focus of her conversation !!

Ute was such a good friend in our Manhattan High School class. She had reached out to me this year with lots of memories from our time together. So sorry to hear of her passing.
