CANDELARIA BARRERA Obituary

CANDELARIA BARRERA SAN JUAN - Candelaria Barrera, 94, died Friday, January 2, 2015, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. Born in Mexico, she had lived in San Juan most of her life. She is preceded in death by her father, Eduvijes Barrera; birth mother, Nieves Garza; mother who raised her, Dolores Barrera; brother, Victoriano Barrera; half-brother, Reynaldo Barrera; half-sisters, Genoveva Palacios, Bertha Garcia, Fidela Rivera; adopted siblings, Lucio Gomez, Teofilo Gomez and Magdalena Gomez de Cantu. Ms. Barrera is survived by two half-sisters, Reyes Barrera de Saenz and Teodora Barrera Vela; a half-brother, Lazaro Barrera; a niece, Maggie Cantu; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, January 4, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment will follow at San Juan Cemetery.
