Elliott bottom hired me the summer of 1970 right out of high school . I trained with Nell Fischer in the lobby and then in the bookkeeping department with Jane Bell to learn signatures. I was the youngest young lady he had ever hired to be a teller he told me that day he interviewed me but he gave me my first job. I remember learning alot about the banking world back then and it has served me well over my life time. I also remember Kay Madsen and Leona who were secretaries in front of his OFFICE in the lobby area. So many good memories and customers in Mission. Helen Bentsen was the teller to my right and she became my friend and coworker for a few years. Adelle would come into the bank every now and then with Brent or one of her other children and id give them bubble gum. I will forever be greatful for the opportunity to work at First State Bank and Trust in Mission. Most of the people Ive mentioned are no longer with us but time moves on. Lalo Acevedo and Downey Davis our loan officers always were busy it seemed to me. May the Bottoms feel the peace and love of our heavenly FATHER as they mourn the loss of Mr. Bottom. With kind sympathies sent your way. Laurette (Fiebig) Madsen

Mr. Bottom financially sponsored a 17-day track and field trip to Scandinavia for me during the summer after my freshman year at Sharyland High in 1987. I was 15 years-old and had raced at the Texas UIL State Track and Field Meet a few months earlier. The invitation-only trip was an amazing opportunity where I would get to meet and train with young track and field athletes from across America and race overseas.

I had made a personal appointment with Mr. Bottom´s secretary to meet with him at his Mission bank office to describe the opportunity and request some level of financial aid so I might gather the necessary funds to attend. He graciously agreed to accept my request to meet! I was so nervous that day I still remember what I wearing to this day!

Upon entering his glass-walled office, he. Rose to greet me and shake my hand. He was very congenial and respectful as he sat across his large desk to chat with me. He started our conversation by asking me general questions about how my school and family life and then asked me why I´d specifically asked to see him that afternoon. He attentively listened to my description of the opportunity and what it would mean to me to accept it. He then asked me very specific financial questions about what exactly I would need to make the trip happen. I was as candid and forthright as I could be.

He then thanked me and said he´d consider my request very thoughtfully. I left having no idea what his decision would be.

Within a few days, he would notify me that he would pay for everything I would need to make the trip.

When I think of what a banker can do for his community as a civic citizen and organization, I think of Mr. Elliot Bottom, a pillar of his community and a credit to his profession.

Peace be with his family and all who knew and loved him. His legacy lives on in our hearts and lives.

Our deepest condolences to the Bottom Family. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Bottom when I started working at The Border Bank in Hidalgo, Texas back in 1980. The best years of my banking career. Fondly remembering Mr B when he would come to the branch. Everyone was literally standing at attention because we were told Bottom is very strict and doesn´t like this or that so of course we were scared. As time passed we got over it and joked about it. Mr B personally helped me and my family with an expense that we couldn´t afford at the time. Forever grateful to Mr Bottom. Then I had the pleasure of working for Brent. It was definitely a pleasure working for the Bottoms. May Mr Bottom Rest in Peace and may The Good Lord grant all the family strength and comfort during this very difficult time. God Bless!
