Ervin Gabbert Obituary
McALLEN- Ervin Gideon Gabbert, 96, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.
Born in Rivera, Texas, in 1912, Mr. Gabbert spent his early years on the family farm in Dunn, Texas, moving to the Rio Grande Valley in 1942 via Corpus Christi. Mr. Gabbert was a Deacon in the First Baptist Church, and the oldest member in age as well as in membership. Mr. Gabbert spent his entire working career in the auto parts business and founded Gabbert Auto Supply, Inc. in 1943.
Mr. Gabbert was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Evelyn Grace Gabbert, his parents, five brothers, four sisters, a half brother and a half sister.
Mr. Gabbert is survived by a half sister, Evon Wrinkle, El Paso, TX; his daughter, Mary Evelyn Corderman (Rev. Delos Corderman) Lexington, S.C.; his son, Gerald Gabbert (Mary Jean) McAllen; four grandchildren, Jason Gabbert (Iris) McAllen, Jana Hildreth (Joe) Harlingen, Amy Purdy (Greg) Smithfield, N.C., Laura Harbison (Bill) New Albany, IN; one great grandson, Nicolas Purdy, Smithfield, N.C.; six step grandchildren and fifteen step great grand children.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2008 at Kreidler Funeral Home, 314 North 10th St., in McAllen with burial following at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be sent to First Baptist Church, 1200 Beech, McAllen, TX 78501.

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY GOES OUT THE ENTIRE GABBERT FAMILY. MY HUSBANDS UNCLE WORKED FOR ERVIN AT THE AUTO PARTS STORE. HIS NAME WAS EBY FRANTZ. MY HUSBAND HAS ALWAYS MENTIONED HOW MUCH HIS UNCLE LOVED TO WORK WITH HIM. WHEN WE FOUND OUT OF HIS PASSING, WE CALLED OUR FAMILY TO PASS THE NEWS ON TO THEM ALSO.

My memories of Mr. Gabbert was that he was always in his place at FBC and always had a big smile. Such wonderful memories of the "days gone by".
