JULIO FIDEL MARTINEZ Julio Fidel Martinez, 86 passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Julio was born in Laredo, Texas to the late Luis and Ofelia Martinez. He graduated high school from St. Joseph Academy, served in the United States Army and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Oklahoma State University. He married the love of his life, Zoila Martinez, on August 6, 1960. He dedicated 32 years working for the Social Security Administration. A year before he retired he was bestowed the Bob Fern Memorial Humanitarian Award in recognition of the outstanding community involvement and civic contributions to the senior citizens of the City of McAllen. He was a quiet, reserved and humble man who appreciated the simple things in life. He traveled the world with his wife and their friends. He adored his son and daughter and beamed with pride when talking about his grandsons, Marco, Danny and Robert. He also enjoyed spending time raising cattle at the family ranch in Roma, Texas. Julio is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Zoila, two children, Julio (Linda) Martinez Jr., Norma (Tommy) Canul, three grandchildren, Roberto Tomas Canul, Daniel Andres Canul and Julio Marco Martinez and step-grandchildren Aaron Rene Canul, Alyssa Anne Canul and Alejandro (Alex) Francisco Canul. He is also survived by a brother, Adolfo "Popo" Martinez of Roma and two sisters Josie Juarez and Eva Postel of Laredo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Maria Luisa Martin, and a brother, Luis Martinez. We would like to give special thanks to the quality care given by the health care professionals at Rio Grande Regional Hospital and Arbor View Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. A viewing will be held at Kreidler Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 17 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 P.M.
