Maria Sotelo Obituary
Born in Alamo, she lived in Pharr all of her life. Ms. Sotelo was employed as an administrative secretary by PSJA ISD for 49 years. She enjoyed shopping, going to Las Vegas with friends and family, and taking her grandchildren and great-grandson to Peter Piper Pizza and the movies. Her charisma and smile will be remembered forever by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Juana Escareno; a nephew, Bobbie Joe Flores; and a great-niece, Mia Grace Flores.
Carmen is survived by a daughter, Isabel Sotelo of San Juan; four grandchildren, Ricardo Javier (Celieus Hernandez) Trevino of McAllen, Alyssa Nicole (Cusberto Flores) Trevino, Saul Guzman Jr., Anissa Yisel Guzman, all of San Juan; one great-grandson, Ryan Michael Trevino of San Juan; her father, Norberto Escareno of Pharr; four siblings, Oralia Escareno of Pharr, Dehlia (Joe) Flores of Mission, Raul (Criselda) Escareno, Rogelio Escareno, both of Pharr; five nephews, Raul (Martha) Escareno II, Rohny Escareno, Robby (Jennifer) Escareno, Jimmie Joe (Heather) Flores, Billie Joe Flores; and one great-niece, Rylea Jordan Escareno.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Daghestani and staff, Palm Valley Health Care staff, Amara Hospice staff and doctors, as well as family and friends for the care and attention given to Carmen.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in San Juan. Interment of cremated remains will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of San Juan.
