Christopher Johnston

1975 - 2014

Johnston, Christopher; age 39; of Alma; passed away Sunday, November 2, 2014. He was born April 20, 1975 in Southfield, Michigan the son of James and Kathy (Goodenow) Johnston. Chris moved with his family to Alma in 1981 and graduated from Alma High School in 1993. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Exercise and Health Science from Alma College in 1998, where he was also a member of the TKE Fraternity. Upon graduation Chris worked for a short time in Chicago before moving to the Detroit area where he worked as a Financial Advisor for TD Ameritrade and Ameriprise. He was currently working for Peckham Industries in Lansing. He was a member of the Nativity of the Lord Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Chris loved to golf and this past summer he shot a 39 at the Ainsdale Golf Course in Kincardine, Ontario and won a longest putt contest in the Knights of Columbus golf outing, both very proud moments for him. He enjoyed hunting with friends and watching sporting events with family. Chris was also known for spending countless hours talking with family and friends at the cottage at Bruce Beach. Chris is survived by his mother, Kathy Johnston of Alma; sister, Susan (Steve) Olson and their children, Heather and Ryan of Chicago; grandmother, Betty Johnston of Alma; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim; his brother, Scott; paternal grandfather, Sam Johnston; and maternal grandparents, Charles and Marion Goodenow. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Nativity of the Lord Parish, Alma. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home with a time for sharing memories of Chris beginning at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alma College or St. Mary’s School.
