James Ogger Obituary

James Robert Ogger, (Jim), 64 of Lake Mecosta, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday Dec. 31, 2011. Jim was born in Detroit to Robert H. and Barbara Ogger. A graduate of Redford High School, Jim attended CMU before he entered the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Prior to deployment, Jim married Jane Patrick of Mt. Pleasant in 1968. He then completed Airborne training and medical studies to become a combat medic for the 3rd brigade 9th Infantry. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Combat Medical Badge and Army Commendation Medal before returning to Mt. Pleasant, where he resumed his studies at CMU. He graduated with a B.S. in Accounting in 1972 and become a CPA in 1976. Later, he was a computer consultant working for numerous companies, including BorgWarner, Progress, Arvin Meritor, Lawyer's Title and for the past 10 years, Johnson Controls in Holland.
Jim's involvement in the lives of his three children and photography created a passion for Mt. Pleasant youth sports. His love of photography has left them a legacy of images. He could often be found at the Mt. Pleasant Ice Arena, where he played defenseman and goalie in adult leagues as well as several Detroit area leagues. Jim resided in Mt. Pleasant for 45 years before moving to Lake Mecosta, where he frequently enjoyed boating and water skiing. His love of boating and service led him to become a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Holland Flotilla, where he served as Crew and Division Communication Services Staff Officer.
Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He instilled knowledge and many great values to his children. Jim is survived by wife Jane of 43 years; mother, Barbara Ogger Stevenson; brother Allan Ogger and wife Patty; children Jill (Ogger) Sedmak and husband Michael, Janel (Ogger) Wills and husband Dave, John Patrick Ogger and wife Lauren Stevenson; as well as grandchildren Michael Patrick Sedmak, Anders Raymond Ogger, and Morgan Jean Wills; mother-in-law, Barbara Patrick; brother-in-law John Patrick and wife Becky; Jay Patrick and wife Kathy, sister-in-law Betsy Edgar and husband Jim; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert H. Ogger; step-father R. Bruce Stevenson; and father-in-law, Col. John W. Patrick Jr.
The family will take time to visit and reflect with friends Friday Jan. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home, Bradley Street, Mt. Pleasant and again on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of memorial service at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Woodlands Hospice, Mt. Pleasant Sports Boosters at www.oilerboosters.com, or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org .

Dear Jane, We were so sorry to hear of Jim's death. We have so many good memories of our Mt.Pleasant years. We saw Jim a few years ago in Holland. We were visiting my brother and wife and we all had dinner together. The guys went fishing the next day. May God be with your whole family as you will always miss him , I know.
