Kenneth D.
Moomey
Aug 7, 1945 - April 3, 2012

Kenneth D. Moomey passed on to his eternal rest on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
He was born August 7, 1945, to Robert and Phyllis (Lentz) Moomey of Ithaca. He attended Ithaca High School graduating in 1963. After graduation he attended Ferris State University and received a degree in Cosmetology. Ken was a jack-of-all-trades; working as a hair stylist, General Motors employee, working at Hick's Road Construction, and as a regional representative for Redmond Industries. Ken was also drafted into the Army and served with the Military Police. For 26 years he served in the business of banking at Ithaca, Pompeii, and Breckenridge. In 2003 he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Alma College with a bachelors degree in teaching with a history major. He taught at Hemlock High School Adult/ Alternative Education for 6 years. He loved teaching and his students were very special to him.
He always had an interest in gospel, country, and blue grass music. He attended the Dulcimer Festival in Evart for 14 years. His collection of unique and stringed instruments is extensive. He was a member of the MSU Choral Union since 1989. He had many interests including reading and collecting books, playing Santa for all ages, baking pies, camping, and woodcarving. He was a member of the Saginaw Woodcarvers Association, and also a member of the Breckenridge Rotary Club.
He loved socializing, as there were no strangers to Ken. He had attachments to West Virginia, frequently helping at the State 4-H Camp at Jackson's Mill. He was appointed as a 4-H All Star of West Virginia, an award he was very proud of.
He was a devoted Christian, serving on many Lay Witness Missions, working with youth, and witnessing to others.
He loved biking and proposed to his wife Kay Toben on the Mackinaw Bridge after riding the DALMAC bicycle tour. They were married on February 12, 1994, at the Central United Methodist Church in Lansing. He loved to travel and experience other cultures. They traveled extensively not only in the United States but also in Mexico. Every year they traveled a circuit to family and friends at Christmas time.
His daughter Jennifer and her children were precious to him. He thoroughly enjoyed their activities and spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife Kay Toben; daughter Jennifer (Kent) Whitford; and their children Abigale and Devyn all of Ithaca; Sister Fern Hartman of Ithaca; brothers Bill (Margaret) of Aurora, CO., Jerry of Laingsburg, and Rex (Mary) of Ithaca. Ken is also survived by his sister-in-law Jane (Dennis) Toben Stock of Pittsburgh, Pa. and brother-in-law John (Linda) Toben of Hurricane, WV, and many nieces and nephews.
He had many special friends who became part of his extended family including Barbara and Rhonda Wallace, Beth Litwiller, Jeff and Nancy Buerge, and Udell Hartman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and adopted parents Russell and Hattie Moomey.
He loved people and he loved life. He will be greatly missed by many.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of my friend and former co-worker. Ken and I were tellers many years ago at CNB in Ithaca. His passion for helping others was obvious and he set a wonderful example for me to follow. My condolences to all of the family.

We are saddened to learn of the death of our classmate. Ken was well liked and a joy to be around. He was always willing to help plan our class reunions and we enjoyed catching up with him whenever we met. We will miss him. Spark and Sue Kench
