Kenneth Roslund Obituary

Roslund, Kenneth F.; age 89; of rural Ithaca; passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Schnepp’s Health Care Center in St. Louis, Michigan, with family by his side. Visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, MI, on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Mr. Darin Litwiller officiating. Burial will take place at Emerson Township Cemetery, Emerson Township, MI. Kenneth was born in Emerson Township, MI, on January 29, 1927, the son of Oscar and Hulda (Erickson) Roslund. He was the second youngest of eleven children. He attended St. Louis Schools. Before graduation, he joined the United States Army, was a World War II veteran, and was a member of the American Legion. In 2002, he received an honorary diploma from St. Louis High School after leaving school to join the military. Kenneth married Violet Godley on August 22, 1948 and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2008, after 59 years of marriage. He farmed his entire life in Newark Township and became known for growing and selling pumpkins from his own patch. Upon retirement, he spent 11 years as a greeter at Walmart in Alma. He loved his family and enjoyed attending activities and events for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially loved giving rides in his horse-drawn sleigh and wagons. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wheeler, Michigan. He is survived by his two sons; Roger (Linda) Roslund of Kawkawlin, MI, and Loren (Becky) Roslund of Ithaca, MI; five grandchildren, Kristin (Keith) Davenport of Ithaca, Kyle Roslund of Vancouver, WA, Kalin (Brent) Lombard of Ithaca, Angela (Seth) Lake of Ithaca, Allison (Greg) Neyer, of Shepherd, MI; five great grandchildren, Lydia and Ivy Davenport, Molly Lake, and Mallory and Bryce Lombard. In addition to his wife and parents, Kenneth was predeceased in death by his infant daughter, Julie Kay; his brothers, Herman, Everet, Arthur, Edvin, Earnest “Bud”, Clifford, Quenten, LeRoy and Walter Roslund; and two sisters, Hulda Greenough and Agnes Bryant. Memorials may be made to Maple View Assisted Living Building Fund, 4396 South Luce Road, Ithaca, Michigan 48847.
