Larry Leo "Moose" Morey

1938 - 2023

Larry "Moose" Leo Morey, age 84 of Winn, MI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at MyMichigan Medical Center Midland. Larry was born June 8, 1938 the son of Leo and Jessie (Wing) Morey at their home on Fremont St., Winn, MI where he would live out the rest of his life in the Winn area. He attended Shepherd High School and graduated in 1957. He was an avid sportsman in high school where he ran track, was a golden gloves boxer in Saginaw, and was an all-star football player. He also played on the Winn hockey team called the Rockets. After graduation, Larry married Carol Salisbury from Shepherd on October 12, 1957. He started his work career at the Morey Brothers Sawmill in Winn and later helped build the future family business, Morbark. In his 40 years at Morbark he wore many hats and made many friends until retiring in May of 1997. He enjoyed traveling, scuba diving, hunting, working in his gardens, cutting wood, working on his many inventions, and most of all spending time with his family. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Carol; his daughters Annette (Carl) Wright, Amy (Jim) Steere, and Christina (Fred) Zalud; son-in-law Doug Curtiss; 12 grandchildren Zachery, Kelly, Sarah, Eric, Jillian, Troy, Jacob, Erin, Nikki, Bridgit, Jesse, and Kaylyn; 11 great grandchildren; sister Shirley Fausett; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Colleen Curtiss; and brother Myron Morey. Services will be Wednesday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Berry Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Chu officiating. There will be visitation on Tuesday, April 18 from 5-8 p.m. Memorials can be made on behalf of Larry to the Veteran charity of your choice.
