William W.
Maxwell
Aug. 15, 1918-Dec. 10, 2013

William W. Maxwell, age 95, of Clare, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013. He was born on August 15, 1918, in Kalamazoo and was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. After college, he joined the U.S Navy, where he proudly served as a Naval Officer on the L.C.I. in the Pacific War of World War II. He graduated as a full Lieutenant on the W.C.I. Bill married Dorothy Fullerton on December 4, 1942, in Luther. After his term in the Navy, he returned to Clare in 1945. He and Dorothy purchased "Louise Flower Shop" from Loeufler; it became the shop we know today as "Maxwell's Flowers and Gifts", serving the floral needs of Clare and surrounding communities for 40 years. After retiring, Bill and Dorothy enjoyed traveling the states and abroad for 41 years. In his younger years, Bill had been a member of the Clare Kiwanis Club and had golfed in the Thursday AM Men's League.
Those left behind to hold onto his memory include: his wife of 71 years, Dorothy; his son, Michael (Cindy) Maxwell of Clare; his son-in-law, Fred Bryant of Pooler, GA; twin granddaughters, Megan and Michelle; a grandson, Jason (Meagan) and great grandson, Donavan of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marlene Bryant; and a great grandson, Broderick.
