Bertha Mae Charles

HELENA: Bertha Mae Charles, 90, of Helena, went to be with the Lord Sunday, September 12, 2010.
Bertha was born September 21, 1919 in Bucyrus, the daughter of Raymond and Bertha (Castle) Chellis. On October 20, 1939 she married Clayton Charles in an impressive ring ceremony at the Missionary Church in Clyde. Mr. Charles preceded her in death on December 15, 1997. Bertha and her husband were co-owners of B's Chrisitan Bookstore. She was a member of Fremont Alliance Church where she was active in the Alliance Women's Group, taught Sunday school, and played the piano and organ for services. Mrs. Charles was also a housekeeper at Beulah Beach Bible and Missionary Conference Center in Vermillion, OH. Bertha was known for her homemade sugar cookies and butterscotch pie. She also enjoyed plastic canvas, crocheting, sewing in her younger years, and bowled until age 80.
Surviving are her children: Jane (John) Engler of Toledo, OH, Leon (Lynn) Charles of Fostoria, OH, Martha (Francis) Ferguson of Millersport, OH, Frieda (Marvin) Fought of Helena, OH, Connie Emrich of Marietta, GA, David (Chris) Charles of Fremont, OH, Randy (Karen) Charles of Fremont, OH; 26 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Earl Chellis; and sisters, Pauline Jacobs, Etta Sue Brown, and Clarabell Chellis.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 10 a.m. until noon at Fremont Alliance Church, 936 North Brush Street, Fremont, OH. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon at the church with Rev. Paul Miller and Rev. Robert Gaston officiating. Burial will be private.
