Jerry Wayne Boerner

Retired Staff Sgt. Jerry Wayne Boerner, 76, of Radcliff, passed away Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Carl M. Brashear Radcliff Veterans Center.

Retired Staff Sgt. Boerner retired from the U.S. Army with 23 years of service; having served one tour in Vietnam and also holding the prestigious duty of being on the Army's ""The Old Guard."" After his military service, he was a member of the Gospel of the Kingdom Church in Elizabethtown, where he ministered in his church and truly loved spreading his love for the Lord. His pastor, Brother Chris Urbano, would greet him saying ""Mighty Man of Valor."" He also served as a chaplain in the Veterans Home. Jerry found joy and purpose as a small engine mechanic for True Value in Radcliff.

His expertise with lawn mowers was not just a profession but a passion, one that allowed him to solve problems and help others. He also was a civilian tank instructor for many years, he could put a tank engine together in his sleep. Although it isn't noted anywhere, Jerry helped develop the troubleshooting module for the Abrams tank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward A. and Carolyn Barham Boerner; and a brother, Ed Boerner.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Boerner of Bardstown; two children, Brandy Dilley (Barrett) of Brenham, Texas, Jerry Boerner Jr. of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren, Samantha Dilley and Ryan Dilley; a brother, Bob Boerner of Hot Springs, Arkansas; two stepchildren, Matthew Bass (Debi) and Rebecca Bass; two stepgrandchildren, Nick Bass and Katie Kelley; his dog, Lilah; and a host of extended family and friends.

The funeral is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, in the chapel of Chism Family Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Burial with military honors follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
