She later attended Western Kentucky State College, graduating in 1964 with a bachelor of science then later receiving a master of arts and Rank 1. She taught 30 years with her first year beginning at the one-room school house at Summit No. 1. This is the same building now located in Freeman Lake Park. Later, she taught at Stephensburg Elementary and Lynnvale Elementary. Her love for teaching remained all her life.

Some of her favorite activities included portraying Amelia Bedelia at various schools and social functions; 25 years with the Elizabethtown Historic Walking Tour, where she played the role of Aunt Beck Hill, former regent of the local DAR Chapter, member of Retired Teachers Association and was a Kentucky Colonel. She received many other accolades throughout her amazing lifetime.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Dollie Nugent; her husband of 51 years, Glenn; a son, Jim; two sisters, Velma Sarver and Edith Dupin; and a brother, Lonnie Nugent.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Lasley; three grandchildren, Tim (Patty) Lasley, Jamie (Tausha) Richardson and Gena (Kyle) Baker; eight great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; several beloved nieces and nephews, as well as many other friends and neighbors.

Phyllis, I don´t know if you remember me but I was from Sonora and our MYF groups sometimes spent time together. I so admired your mom. She was always very upbeat, kind, entertaining and such an inspiration to me as well as many others during our formative years. Not having been in touch for years I was shocked to see that Jim had passed even before her. Please know that your family was quite special to me and that I´ll be keeping you in my prayers.

Phyllis, Julia Belle was one of the most loved teachers I knew; may God grant you strength and know that we are praying for you. Rita (Terry) Watkins was correct; Summit is no more. There are many accolades for Julia; but first and foremost; she raised two wonderful children. By the way, Billy and Mike said they never did get a peach clobber. (Inside joke!!!) With much love; The Hodge family.... Larry and Drenda

Mrs. Richardson was a wonderful teacher that I had the privilege of having for both the 3rd and 4th grade. She took a personal interest in all her students and helped us to grow and learn to reach our potential. She not only taught the core subjects but also encouraged us to develop a love for reading through Junior Great Books and helped us to perform the play entitled "Tom Sawyer". I will always remember her and the difference she made in my life.
