Lyle Babbitt Obituary

Lyle Edward Babbitt, 81, of Mt. Washington, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, at his home.

Lyle joined the U.S. Navy in 1959 at the age of 18. He served in the Navy as a corpsman and was deployed to Vietnam. Lyle's second tour in Vietnam as a Navy corpsman had him attached to a Marine unit. After he returned safely home, he enlisted in the Army and served a third tour in Vietnam. Lyle made a career of the Army and retired in 1988. He then went back to college, earned a degree in computer programming and had a second career as a programmer working for the U.S. Calvary Store and the Kentucky Lottery where he retired again in 2002. Lyle "Papa" fondly will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of bluegrass music, playing of his harmonica and singing the songs to his grandchildren that his parents use to sing to him.

Lyle is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Luella; and his three brothers, Jim, Arthur and Larry.

Lyle is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Tyna; daughter, Michelle (Chad) Hall of Victoria, Texas; daughter, Nancy (Keith) Rowland of Georgetown; son, Lyle (Ayrin) Babbitt Jr. of Mt. Washington; and five granddaughters, Natasha, Ella, Georgia, Presley and Kendall.

A private graveside service will be held at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central. A celebration of life will be held March 13.

Tyna and family,
I was sorry to hear of Lyle´s passing. It was always exciting when he and his family came to visit in ND. I remember later visits when he was in the service. I remember his smile and interesting stories. Later I enjoyed the times we were together when you were at Fort Riley. Life is too short, I wish we´d stayed in touch.
Sending prayers and loving thoughts to all of you.
Cousin Donna Safely Carmack
