Nancy Kaderabek Obituary

Nancy McKenzie Kaderabek, 82, died at her home in Bedford, Ind., on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, with her son Michael, and her husband of 61 years, Dr. Donal "Don" J. Kaderabek, at her side.

Nancy was born in Schenectady, N.Y., but soon moved to Arlington, Mass., with her adoptive father, Creelman McKenzie; and her mother, Dorothy Bunker McKenzie.

After graduating from Mount Auburn Nursing School, Nancy spent her early adult life working in the nursing field and supporting the family as Don pursued his medical degrees. Once children arrived, Nancy turned her full attention to raising their four children. Later in life, she became an example of selfless community service around her home of Bedford, serving as president of the Tulip Trace Girl Scout Council, president of the Bedford Library Board and director of home health for the non-profit Hoosier Uplands Economic Development Corps. Along the way, she found time to earn her college degree at Marion College in Indianapolis and her master's in nursing from Indiana University.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Don; two brothers, Alan McKenzie (Ann) of Indianapolis and Bruce McKenzie (Nancy) of Danbury, Conn.; four children, Anne Swope (Carl) of Elizabethtown, Dr. Douglas Kaderabek (Marty) of Indianapolis, Charles Kaderabek (Lynn) of San Diego and Michael Kaderabek (Becky) of Vincennes, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, Susan Schmidt (Blake), Jennifer Scarbrough (Adam), David Swope, Allison Marie Kaderabek, Stephen Kaderabek, April Silfies (Brian), Nicholas Kaderabek, Kate Kaderabek, Michael Sera Kaderabek, Haley Kaderabek and Hanna Kaderabek; one great-grandchild, Griffin Silfies; five nieces, Amy McKenzie (Ellen), Alice McKenzie Morical (Greg), Elizabeth McKenzie Bryant (Brandon), Catherine McKenzie and Caroline McKenzie; a grandniece, Lea Morical; and two grandnephews, Kyle and Scott Morical.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to the local Girl Scout Council or Alzheimer's Association chap-ter.

To the family:

I have nothing but very fond memories of Mrs. K. Ann, your mother was one of a kind. She made Girl Scouting so much fun. I have such good memories of the sleepovers at your house. Mrs. K. was just fun to be around. It's hard to lose your mother, but know God knows all of your sorrows and look to him for strength. Know that I love your mom and so sorry to hear fo her passing.
