Patricia Wilson Obituary

Patricia Ann Wilson, 82, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 6 2024, at home, in her sleep.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Bobby Dale Wilson; her parents, Ras and Helen Herald; and a brother, Bill Bryant.

Survivors include two children, Lisa Matherly (Kevin) and Michele Chaffins (D-Wayne Brewer), both of Elizabethtown; a granddaughter, Samantha Hager; two great-grandsons, Dax and Zed Hager of Elizabethtown; a sister, Barbara Payton of Bowling Green; as well as several nieces and nephews.

When someone dies you always just see the facts, the dates, the times, the places and the family left behind and know someone will be missed. But I want to tell you about our mom's dash. The dash, representing the time between the day she was born to the day she left to be with Jesus.

She was born in Frankfort on Sept. 1, 1941, and lived in various states growing up before ending up in Horse Cave for high school, where she saw a tall handsome man, who later became the love of her life. She knew when she saw him he was the one. Her beauty, quick wit, intelligence and silly sense of humor won his heart. Not to mention she was a great cook. They got married and started a family. Mom decided to stay at home to take care of us wild children, which we loved. She would play with us, make Barbie clothes, have crafty ideas to keep us busy, and always had one paddle ball paddle painted blood red with the ball and string cut off if we decided to get into trouble, if she could catch us. She was the mom helping us do school projects when us kids forgot until the last minute. Whatever we needed, mom always made sure we had it. Whatever we wanted to try, whether it be cheerleading or some other activity, she would support us and never once complained about having to run us here or there. Throughout life, every important decision she has always been there to help and offer any guidance we might need from her lifetime of experiences.

As I became a parent myself, I appreciated her even more watching her enjoy her time with her granddaughter, seeing her laugh, play, spoil and enjoy the adventures of childhood again as she once did with my sister and I. She became the absolute best Granny/GeeGee a grandchild could ever ask for.

It's hard to believe that person who sacrificed a lot so we could have, is no longer here. No longer here to see future family milestones. No longer here to give those hugs that always seem to make all your troubles disappear. No longer here for movie night and Chinese food which means we will have to wait until the end of the movie to see how it ends. She was notorious for sharing her predictions on how the movie would end. She taught us lots of things we needed for life except how to move forward in a world that didn't have her in it.

Arrangements have been made for mom to be cremated and since she was such private person and didn't want all the fuss of a service, we are having a private burial ceremony for our immediate family. We want to thank everyone who has reached out to us in our time of need with condolences, cards, food and prayers for the months ahead.

In my opinion, whoever wrote this obituary, wrote it well. When my time comes, I hope someone will be able to say those things about me.
