Phyllis Hazle Obituary

Phyllis Ann Wagoner Hazle, 91, of Hodgenville, formerly of Magnolia, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown.

She and her husband, Charles 'Red' were the owners and operators of Hazle Farm Supply from 1956-2013, where many LaRue Countians shopped for everything from feed, plants, seeds and equipment for their farming and gardening needs.

Phyllis was an avid reader of her Bible and helped with many vacation Bible schools in her younger days at Three Forks of Bacon Creek and other small churches. After graduating from Magnolia High School as valedictorian, she worked at the LaRue County Health Department. A master of crossword puzzles and a well-known cook, Phyllis was adamant about her independence.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in January 2017; her parents, Alonzo and Margaret Pringle Wagoner; as well as four brothers, Z.L., Fred, Charles Robert and James Wagoner.

Survivors include her sister, Lynda Stearman as well as two daughters, Kathy (Garry) Ross and Connie Baker, all of Hodgenville; a son, Dr. Charles (Kristie) Hazle of Winchester. In addition, she is survived by four granddaughters, Beth Turner, Allison Elmore, Katie Holt and Sarah Caven, all of Hodgenville; seven great-grandchildren, Biven and Baines Turner, Griffey and Ripken Elmore and Amos, Jude and Vivi Caven; along with several nieces and nephews.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with Brad Turner and Terry Caven officiating. Burial follows in Red Hill cemetery alongside her husband.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and continues from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International or Hodgenville First Baptist Church, 730 Tonieville Road, Hodgenville and designated to the Dominican Republic Missions Project.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Hazle will be Rick Wagoner, Andy Wagoner, Biven Turner, Baines Turner, Matt Holt and Carter Elmore.

Phyllis was a woman of God! She lifted me up as WMU Director and at least once a month would send me encouragement. She loved Jesus! She was a disciple maker. Let me share with you one of my favorite quotes she sent me this year in the month of September. "Don´t let anyone who hasn´t been in your shoes tell you how to tie your laces." Phyllis had a sense of humor. She lifted me up! I will miss her prayers and monthly encouragement. I know all of you in this wonderful family will miss her too. Just remember her love for all of you. I love all of you too! Your fellow servant at FBC Hodgenville,
Jamie Walters
