Cecil William Davis Sr., age 93, of McCaysville, Georgia, passed away, July 11, 2024, at his home.
Mr. Davis was born October 4, 1930, to the late Will and Bertha Falls Davis.
Born in Mineral Bluff, Cecil grew up in the Blue Ridge area before attending college at the University of Georgia.
After graduation, he served in the United States Army. His bravery and commitment were exemplified throughout his military career, earning him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him.
After his honorable discharge, Cecil embarked on his lifelong career in education, where he served as an Agriculture and "Shop" teacher, a school administrator, and ultimately the superintendent of Fannin County Schools before his retirement. His leadership was marked by compassion, vision, and a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of education. Under his guidance, countless students and educators alike were inspired to reach their full potential.
Cecil was a member of the congregation at the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill as well.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Della Mae Millholland Davis; brother, Leo Davis, and sister Edna Davis.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Cecil's greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished grandfather.
Cecil is survived by his children, Nicki (Terry) Johnson, and Cecil Davis Jr.; sisters, Betty Jo Collins and Barbara Davis; grandchildren, Nichole Panter, Jeffery Davis and Will Panter; great-grandchildren, Katelynn Mae Curtis and Oakley Davis.
Funeral services for Cecil Davis Sr., were held Friday, July 12, 2024, at 4 p.m. from the chapel of the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home McCaysville Chapel with the Rev. Alan Picklesimer and the Rev. Matt Mathis officiating.
Interment will follow the service in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery off Hardscrabble Road in Mineral Bluff, Georgia.
Cecil will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his unwavering integrity, and his steadfast devotion to his loved ones. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mr. Davis' family received friends at the Cochran-McDaniel Funeral Home McCaysville Chapel Friday, July 12, 2024, from 12 p.m. until the 4 p.m. funeral service hour.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jeffery Davis, Will Panter, Terry Johnson, Jonathan Curtis, Jeff Quinton, and Roger Keith.
