James Cheatham Obituary

Rev. James "Jimmy" Amburn Cheatham, age 92, of Mineral Bluff, passed away August 19, 2024, at his home.
He was born in Ducktown, Tennessee, November 19, 1931, to the late Rev. Floyd Nathan and Frances Lucille Amburn Cheatham.
After graduating high school, Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
He worked at the Tennessee Copper Company as a chief clerk until his retirement in 1975. Already being called to preach, Jimmy preached and pastored churches in North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee for the last 55 years. During his ministry, he was able to visit the Holy Land and ministered on many different mission trips over the years.
He loved to ride horses. He was also an avid bird hunter and enjoyed training bird dogs. However, most of all Jimmy loved his family dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Pamela Ann Cheatham; sister, Helen Cheatham Brabham of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and one great-grandchild, Daylen Towe.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Ann Cheatham of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and James Bailey of Mineral Bluff and Margie and Derrick Buchanan of Morganton; sister, Dotti Cornell of Fruitland Park, Florida; grandchildren, Courtney Haney, Ayla and Andrew Wilson, Jason and Amanda Towe, and Jennifer and Jamie Ellington; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 2 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with the Rev. Chester Jones and the Rev. Buddy Pittman officiating. Music was provided by Pam McCray and Jim Newton. Interment followed in the Hot House Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Will Davis officiating.
The following gentlemen were selected to serve as pallbearers, Rev. G.W. Mathis, Rev. Claude Mathis, Rev. James Payne, Jr., Rev. Danny Queen, the Rev. Al Patterson and Blake Wynn.
The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
