Michael David Birchmore, Sr., age 65, was born August 6, 1959, to the late William David and Oma Sue Birchmore.
He lived a full, prosperous, productive, and faithful life until he passed from this earthly realm to join his Lord August 28, 2024, at University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a longtime member of the Blue Ridge Church of Christ and served in leadership roles for 11 years.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jodie Marie Birchmore; son, Michael Birchmore, Jr.; daughter, Anna (Charlie) Morris; grandson, Max Morris; brother, Jeffrey (Stephanie) Birchmore; mother-in-law, Jo Ann Ralston; sisters-in-law, Lisa (David) Crawford and Jennifer (Wesley) King; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Because his father was in the Air Force, Mike grew up traveling. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and lived in California, Mississippi, Germany, and Georgia before attending college.
Mike graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian School in 1977. He received his bachelor's degree from David Lipscomb University in 1987 and Juris Doctor from Mercer University in 1990. He played baseball in high school and college and enjoyed fishing, boating, and watching his favorite teams the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, the Georgia Bulldogs, and Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Mike spent most of his time as an attorney in Blue Ridge for 21 years. He also worked as an attorney in Albany, Alpharetta, and Lawrenceville. He retired in 2023. Very recently he moved with Jodie to Springville, Alabama.
Mike was an accomplished attorney as well as a Certified Mediator and Arbitrator. His professional accomplishments included appointment as Special Assistant District Attorney, eligibility for membership in the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and Counsel for State of Georgia in Federal actions. Mike was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia, the Tennessee State Bar, the Supreme Court of Georgia, Court of Appeals of Georgia, the United States District Court for Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia.
Mike was a faithful, active member of the Blue Ridge church of Christ. He served as a deacon for eight years and on the steering committee for three years. Mike loved the church, the body of Christ. Wherever he moved, he identified with the local congregation.
Mike was a true family man. He was involved in the Band Boosters as a member and as President when Michael was playing the saxophone in middle and high school. In the past, Mike served on the Board of the North Georgia Bible Camp, participated in the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Tennessee State Special Olympics, and the Georgia State Bar High School Mock Trial Program.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 2, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Blue Ridge Church of Christ with Wesley King officiating. Jason Osgatharp led singing. A graveside service and interment followed at Chastain Memorial Park with Minister Daniel Cline officiating. The pallbearers were David Crawford, Jeffrey Birchmore, Jeremy Holcomb, Jake Boro, William Birchmore, and Bryant Birchmore. Honorary pallbearer was Max Morris.
The family received friends at the church Monday, September 2, 2024, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.
