Shirley keyes Obituary

Shirley Ann (Thompson) Keyes, 89, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025, at Brookdale Senior Living in Staunton, Virginia.
She was born to Wade and Nora Thompson August 14, 1936, in McCaysville, Georgia.
She graduated from Fannin County High School and Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia.
She married Wayne Keyes June 6, 1958, and they moved to Newport News, Virginia.
Shirley worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Hampton, Virginia and for Newport News Public Schools as a nurse and as a teacher educating students in nursing skills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Keyes; her sisters, Betty Stepp and Peggy Seymour; and her son, Paul Keyes.
Surviving is her son, Joey Keyes; her daughters-in-law, Carol Keyes and Trisha Keyes; five grandchildren, Katharine (Chris), Paul Jr., Mackenzie, Meghan, and Kyle; two great-grandchildren, Colton and Keria Page; her sister, Sue Beaver; her brother, TJ Thompson (Kathy); as well as her beloved nieces, Donna and Martha and nephew, Wade.
Shirley was a member of Phoebus United Methodist Church in Hampton, Virginia.
A family memorial service will be held at a future date.
In Shirley's memory, donations can be made to the Paul Keyes Memorial Baseball Scholarship at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, Virginia, was in charge of her arrangements.
