David Bryant Obituary

David Gordon Bryant

Sequim - David Gordon Bryant, 87, of Sequim, WA and formerly of Oshkosh and Madison, WI joined the angels on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. He was born January 2, 1934 (1-2-34) in Middletown, OH the son of J. William and Atchee (nee Jones) Bryant. David graduated from Case Western Reserve University and New York Medical College. David began his medical practice in Madison, WI in 1965. He was drafted and served his country as part of the United States Army. Following a year in Vietnam as an orthopaedic surgeon, he returned to his family and medical practice in Madison. In 1979, he moved his practice to Oshkosh, WI where he remained until his retirement. David was an avid pilot and his children remember him using his personal airplane to travel to rural communities to perform surgeries. David enjoyed traveling with his wife Loretta, and three children. They had a passion for scuba diving, and often traveled to Key West, Florida where he was officially named a Freshwater Conch, by the mayor.

After retirement at the end of 1999, David and Loretta moved to Sequim, WA. He loved the beaches of the Olympic Peninsula and, with his nephew, climbed Mount Olympus at age 70 to benefit the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. David had friends everywhere he went, neighbors in Sequim affectionately called him Doc and they spent many evenings sharing dinner and drinks. He was an avid reader and his curiosity was relentless, constantly acquiring new hobbies and passions including astronomy, sci-fi, drawing, painting, golfing, gardening, photography, turning pens, making jewelry and cooking. David's positivity was steadfast, even as he lived with the effects of Parkinson's Disease for nearly two decades.

David always had a pocket full of dog treats for his loyal golden retriever, Beauregard. Beau's death preceded David's by only a few weeks, and the family finds comfort in knowing Beau was waiting for David when he passed over.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Loretta Bryant; son, Andrew Bryant, daughters Cindy (Robert) Bryant, and Michelle (Scott) Johnson. He also leaves behind one granddaughter, Andrea; his sister, Deborah Bryant (Nathan Winkelman), brother-in-law Robert (Judy) Steinmetz, sister-in-law Hazel Steinmetz and MANY loving Nephews and Nieces. He will be remembered and missed by family, friends and colleagues in all parts of the world.

He was preceded in death by his sister Elsie Mae (Bill) Blinn and brother John (MaryJane) Bryant.

A private memorial service will be held July 24th in Sequim, WA. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Northwest Parkinson's Foundation or your favorite charity.

I had the privilege to work with Dr. Bryant at the old Oshkosh Clinic. Dave was a true gentleman. He was a Doctor's doctor. He was a mentor to me as I grew my practice. I loved to go up to his office to discuss X-rays and get his advice. I was sad when they moved away and am even sadder to see that he has passed. My condolences to Loretta and the family. He will be missed.
