On October 28, 1967 he married Sharon Schroeder in Oshkosh. Dick was proud to serve with the 1157th Transportation Red Arrow Division of the National Guard. He was a sales representative for Pluswood, Inc. for 15 years, and worked for 30 plus years in land development with his business partner and lifelong friend, Tom Rusch. Together they developed subdivisions, apartments, constructed many homes, office buildings and retail centers; and owned and managed property in Wisconsin, Florida (including orange groves), Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. He was a founding board member of Choice Bank in Oshkosh, now known as Nicolet National Bank. Dick loved the water and enjoyed boating, looking at boats, property on the lake, fishing and duck hunting. Throughout his life he owned multiple homes on the water with views of lakes, rivers and oceans in Wisconsin and Florida. As a collector, he enjoyed his former collection of guns, duck decoys, outdoor sports paraphernalia and cars. Winters were spent in Naples, Florida with his many friends there. Dick will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, getting together with his buddies, cheering on his granddaughters and always negotiating the next business deal.

Dick is survived by his wife, Sharon; children: Cindy (Jeff) Borgen; granddaughters: Sophia Borgen and Lauren Borgen; brother, Tom Gabert, sister-in-law Maribeth Gabert; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother and sister-in-law Henry and Sandra Gabert.

A visitation will be on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at MARTIN LUTHER EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1526 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh, with Rev. Tom Voss officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Oshkosh. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established to support wildlife and conservation.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Geralyn Stobb for her wonderful care, long friendship, and serving as office manager for Dick. Further, thank you to the I.C.U. staff and Dr. Natalie Roberts, DO for their attentive and compassionate care during Dick's hospitalization at Ascension NE Wisconsin Mercy Hospital.

Dick worked tirelessly in and around Oshkosh and will be sincerely missed by not only his family but also many great friends and numerous business associates.
