Roger Lines Obituary

Lines, Roger M.

Roger M. Lines, age 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Waterford (Century Oaks) of Oshkosh. He was born on October 30, 1929 in Valparaiso, Indiana, the son of the late Everett and Mariam (Stoner) Lines. Roger graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana. In 1956 he married Carol Jahns, their marriage was blessed with five children. Later in life he married Neoma "Winkie" Christian. Roger was a salesman for Central Steel & Wire in Chicago, IL for 42 years retiring in 1996. Roger and Carol moved to Oshkosh in 1962 following an opening in the sales division for Central Steel & Wire. After he retired he became a founding member of West Pointe Bank and was a board member for 15 years. Throughout his earlier years Roger had a band called, Roger Lines and the Esquires, in which he played the trumpet. He was an avid golfer, he was very proud of his 4 holes-in-one; two were consecutive days on two different courses in Florida. Roger was a long time member and past president of Oshkosh Country Club. He enjoyed all of Wisconsin's sports teams, especially being a season ticket holder with the Packers. Roger was very social; he had many long term friends. Over the years he served on many boards at Trinity Lutheran Church, he also coached basketball at Trinity School.

Roger is survived by his five children: John (Cindy) Lines, Mary Busby, Jim Lines, Tom (MaryJane) Lines, Kathy (Bob) Bechard and John Christian; 11 grandchildren: Ryan Lines, Jim, Scott and Brian Busby, Trisha, Katie (Tracy) and Taylor Lines, Cypress and Elizabeth Lines, Mason Bechard and Jake the dog; and three great-grandchildren: Gavin, Caleb and Aubrey. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol, second wife, Winkie and two brothers: Ron and Bob Lines.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Waters, 1393 Washington Ave., from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a Time of Remembrances at 6:30 pm. A memorial is being established.

To the entire Lines family: You all are very blessed to have had this man in your lives as long as you had. I personally took care of Roger on & off for almost 3 years. Not only was he one of the most polite, caring, and sweetest people I've ever known, but honestly one of the best residents I have ever cared for in my 14 years in this field. Up until the day Roger went to be with the Lord and his beloved wife, he always had a smile on his face, held a conversation about not only his wonderful family but the Green Bay Packers, and his love of golf. Roger will always be apart of my heart as another grandfather to me. Everyone you care for in my line of work is a new set of grandparents you never knew you had, Roger was a truly exceptional man and I'm proud to say one of the best resident, "Grandpa's" I've ever had. Roger will not only have a special piece of my heart forever, but everyother "grandma & grandpa" he shared a home with while staying with us at The Waterford at Oshkosh (Century Oaks). Thoughts and prayers to his amazing family, and again you all are truly blessed to have had an amazing man like Roger in your lives!

My condolences to all of you at this time of loss. Be strong in your faith and know that he is now with his heavenly Father. It is always hard to lose a loved one, but be there for each other and remember it is alright to cry, but also remember to smile and laugh again. In my prayers!
