Mrs. Abegg was an exceptional teacher. She was smart, caring, helpful, encouraging and inspirational. She understood and applied the art and science of teaching and she knew how to best reach each student so that they could learn and grow in a positive healthy environment. By believing in the potential of her students, she touched the future. RIP Mrs. Abegg, you made a difference.

It is wonderful to read about the impact that Mrs. Abegg had on her students. I feel the same way. Her Humanities class inspired life-long interests for me in art, literature, architecture, history, travel . . .

Mrs. Abegg was a super Honors AP teacher and a gem in a very good high school. She was supportive of her students’ countless interests, and a good soul. My 1983 classmates and I still speak fondly of her and hope that the adventure to the NW was a joy to her.

Mrs. Abegg was and remains a wonderful inspiration to me. As faculty sponsor of the Student Council at Fairview High School in 1977 when I served as president, she led me to believe the sky was the limit. I know I've achieved more in my life because of Mrs. Abegg. As a trainer and professor myself now of 30 years, the number of years she taught at FHS, I try to be my students'/clients' "Mrs. Abegg." I know what she did for me, and I try to pass it along. She was truly a gift. God bless you, Mrs. Abegg.

Ms Abegg was my favorite teacher! If there was something important that I was confused about, or troubled about, Ms Abegg was the person to go to. She truly listened to what we, her students, had to say, and then helped us push our thinking further. She was intellectually honest and expected the same from her students; she was a model of curiosity and fairness in debate. She loved her students and we all knew that, and I think it is that quality that made her such a beloved and trusted role model. If I had to name only three adults in my childhood that had the most powerful positive influence on me, she’d be on that list along with my parents. I’ll never forget her.

It's a real testament to Mrs. Abegg that so many folks are saying she was the best teacher they ever had. She certainly made a profound difference in my life. Indeed, I had a bit of a crisis in college because so few of the professors used her warm and inclusive methods. When I decided to study in order to become a college English teacher, Mrs. Abegg was one of the people I wanted to emulate. I find it deeply moving to read, in the comments here, that so many others sought to follow her example too. A phenomenal teacher and human being!

I have thought about Mrs. Abegg countless times since graduating from high school in 1973, majoring in English in college, and then becoming a professor myself. She inspired me to think seriously about something that I loved deeply, charting the course for my life's work. She was a wonderful teacher and a lovely human being;

To Mrs. Abegg's family - she was a fantastic teacher and person. One of the best teachers I ever had in my academic career. She wanted me to excel in English and I tried because of her insistence and guidance. She surprised me with nominating me for an award my senior year. She felt I deserved the YMCA Merit Award, which I received in June 1975.
I am sitting here looking at the framed plaque. It has always been very special to me. This award has traveled with me everywhere as a reminder of her faith in my abilities at such a young age. She was a great mentor.

I liked most of my teachers in high school, but I felt especially fortunate to have had Mrs. Abegg not only as my English teacher but also as my homeroom teacher and literary magazine advisor for four years. She was a wonderful person, and I think just about everyone liked her. To me (and I know I'm not alone in this sentiment), she was like a second mother; I felt like a son. (Other students called her "Mabegg," which is probably not the worst nickname bestowed upon a teacher.)

We stayed in touch for a few years after I graduated from high school, but I lost contact with her when she moved to Tacoma. I've long regretted not reaching out to her after she left, especially since I thought of her so many times over the years. I've missed talking to her, and I always will. Rest in peace.
