Carol Taylor Obituary

Carol Taylor
April 9, 1928 - March 9, 2021
Tumwater, Washington - Mrs. Carol Joyce Hunter Taylor, age 92, lifelong resident of the Olympia and Shelton areas passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease on March 9, 2021.
She was born April 9th, 1928, Mason County, a daughter of the late Harold and Mabel Hunter. Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Justin E Taylor.
Carol graduated from Seattle Pacific College and became a nurse working in Prairie City, Oregon. Through family, she met Justin Taylor whom she married in 1954 and had 3 children. She was a devout member of Hidden Creek Community Church and a homemaker. She enjoyed raising her children while helping Justin run their shellfish business on Oyster Bay. Carol was an amazing hostess for numerous church activities. Throughout the years she cooked many delicious Sunday meals for her extended family. She and Justin were known as caring people who opened their home to many high school and college students. There was always room to fit another plate around Carol's dining table! Her large vegetable garden could always be counted on for great quantities of produce. Her volunteer work at the church library kept her busy and the books in perfect order. Carol was known to get out every summer for her customary water ski, impressing her grown children with her skill. Justin and Carol travelled extensively after their children left the home. In their travels they notably visited China, the Amazon and Central Africa. Later in life she enjoyed regular luncheons with her sister, cousins and lifelong nursing friends.
.
Carol is survived by her three children, William Taylor (Betsy Taylor), Paul Taylor (Gail Taylor) and Janet Pearson (Jeff Pearson), 9 grandchildren Diani Taylor Eckerson (Chris Eckerson), Malindi Taylor, Becca Ellen Harz (Erik Harz), Brittany Taylor (Weston Taylor), Marcelle Gonzalez (Xadier Gonzalez), Nyle Taylor, Brooke Pearson, Lynnea Pearson and Jada Pearson, and 5 great grandchildren, Nya, Kaden, Kaizer, Arwen and Ruan. Carol is also survived by her loving older sister, Dr. Doris Hunter Wilson.
A family only graveside service will be held Friday March 12 at Shelton Memorial Park. A celebration of life is planned for July 4th, in honor of Carol's traditional Fourth of July breakfast.
.
A special thanks to all the special people who cared for Carol at Tumwater Senior Living.

The Ludwig family loved the Taylors! We have many wonderful memories combing the beach looking for arrowheads, waterskiing, grilling oysters, swimming on big styrofoam blocks. I specifically remember how gentle and kind Carol was to me. She always showed me where the bathing suits were kept so I could pick one out for swimming. I agree with my sister Gael, the Halloween parties were epic! Loved driving the long driveway to the house with all the spooky things hanging from the trees. Thanks for the memories. Carol was a lovely woman! She will be missed and remembered dearly.

I always loved oysters & clams because of Carol & Justin Taylor. Our families met at Westside Alliance church. Many after-church afternoons were spent at their house on the bay. Her pot roast I still remember well -- it was so good and still my standard for a perfect roast. She was always disappointed when she burnt the rolls but that's how dad (Paul Ludwig) and Justin liked them and wanted the burned ones!
Does anyone remember their Halloween parties?? It was epic, with scary things that would pop out of the woods on their long driveway.
Carol had two fat orange cats who were brothers she adored. I thought to myself, someday, my dream would be to have two orange fat cats of my own. Well ... 3 years ago when my neighborhood burned to the ground in Santa Rosa, CA, all that was left was my house & two orange brother kittens that crawled out from underneath my house. Now they are my own special orange fat cats just like Carol's and i got my wish!

Carol helped me develop my love of reading through the library at the church. That small library had a great selection because of her and she would help me find the books that she knew I would enjoy! fI still love readying to this day!

I also remember youth group gatherings at Carol & Justin's Shelton house with waterskiing and butter clams - delicious! She was a wonderful hostess and always made us feel welcome and special as youth.

She was truly a blessing!

Carol was a very beloved Aunt. She was a great support to our Wilson family in many ways! Different family members lived with Carol & Justin for holidays & extended periods of time. She was a very generous, kind & thoughtful person.

When I was in college in NY and my parents were in Africa, she called me every week to see how I was doing. For many years, she & her sister Doris took their grandchildren (whoever was able to go)(& some of their parents) to the beach for a few days every summer. There are many memories & photos of those times.

Carol & Doris had lunch together almost every week for years and also got together with their Hunter cousins for lunch once a month for years. Carol would often bring a gift of shellfish to her sister when they met.

She offered me a bed & room many times when I was unable to get back home due to the Skokomish River flooding.

She will be greatly missed! May her memory be blessed.
